Small Business SEO Impact Report 2025: Google Business Profile findings

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder5 min read

SEO Caddy's Small Business SEO Impact Report 2025 reports that businesses with optimised Google Business Profiles received 3.2 times more website visits from local searches than businesses without them. The report analysed 439 UK small and medium-sized businesses across 18 industry sectors from January through December 2025. These are reported group comparisons, not proof that profile optimisation caused the differences.1

The report lists review quantity and average rating as critical local SEO factors: a minimum of 25 reviews and 4.2+ stars. It does not attach a measured outcome to that factor list or establish it as a Google requirement. The report says 78% of surveyed businesses reported that Google Business Profile optimisation delivered the highest return on investment. That is a survey finding about reported ROI, not a causal measurement or a Google requirement.1

What does the 3.2-times finding say about Google Business Profile optimisation?

It says that the report observed a difference in local-search website visits between businesses with optimised profiles and businesses without them. It does not say that every business will receive 3.2 times more visits after optimising its profile.

The report describes analytics, survey responses and comparisons, but it does not describe a randomized profile-optimisation intervention. The safest reading is therefore an association reported for this UK business sample during this period.

Google's own guidance adds context but no matching threshold. Google says complete and accurate Business Profile information is more likely to appear in local search results. Google also says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity, and that businesses cannot request or pay for a better local ranking.2 Google does not define "optimised" as a numeric score on that page.

What does the report say about review quantity and average rating?

The report lists review quantity and average rating as critical local SEO factors: a minimum of 25 reviews and 4.2+ stars. It does not say that businesses meeting those factors ranked higher, received more visits, generated more leads or earned more revenue. It also does not present the factor list as a Google requirement.

What do these numbers not tell you?

  • They do not describe every small business. The reported study population was in the United Kingdom. It should not be presented as a US or global benchmark.
  • They do not prove causation. The report describes analytics and group comparisons, not a randomized test of profile optimisation.
  • They do not set a Google requirement. Google does not state that a profile needs a particular completion score, 25 reviews or a 4.2-star average to appear in local results.2
  • They do not give a ranking guarantee. The 3.2-times result concerns reported website visits from local searches. The report’s review and rating factor list does not state an outcome.
  • They do not isolate one profile field. “Optimised” is a group label in the report, not a measured change to one field.

Common questions about the report

Does Google require an optimised or fully completed Business Profile?

No numeric completion threshold appears in Google's local-ranking guidance. Google says complete and accurate information is more likely to show up in local search results, but it also names relevance, distance and popularity as the main local-result factors.2

Did optimising a Google Business Profile cause 3.2 times more visits?

The report compares businesses with and without optimised profiles. It does not describe a causal method, so the result should not be presented as a guaranteed effect.

Does the report prove that a business needs 25 reviews and a 4.2-star rating?

No. The report lists a minimum of 25 reviews and 4.2+ stars as critical local SEO factors, but does not state that Google requires them or attach a particular outcome to them. They are findings from this UK study, not a universal target.12
