Google Business Profile
What website page should I link from my Google Business Profile?
Short answer
Link to the page that most directly represents the actual business or location and gives a visitor the next useful step. Use the homepage when it is the clearest complete destination, a service or location page when it answers the visitor's specific need, and a booking or ordering page only as an eligible action link that lets the customer complete that action. Google's Business Profile guidance also requires a full HTTP or HTTPS URL and says Googlebot should not be blocked; not every business, category, or region has every action-link option.

Which page should I use as the default website link?
The homepage is a safe default only when it represents the individual business or location and gives a first-time visitor enough information to take the next useful step. Google does not say that a homepage is always preferred. If a more specific page gives the right customer a more complete, direct answer, use that page instead.12
If the profile is not set up yet, the answer about creating a Google Business Profile covers the phone and website fields in Google's setup flow.
| Destination | Choose it when | Check before you use it |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage | It clearly represents the actual business or location and is the most useful complete starting point. | It loads as the final destination, identifies the business, and tells a visitor what to do next.5 |
| Service or location page | The visitor needs information about one service or one business location. | The page is genuinely about that business or location, contains useful information, and does not merely funnel the visitor to a generic page.246 |
| Booking or appointment page | The profile offers an eligible booking or appointment action and the page lets the customer complete it. | The page is a dedicated landing page for the actual business and action. Keep eligibility and location rules in mind.3 |
The homepage row is an editorial choice based on the destination tests above, not a Google rule that every Business Profile should link to its homepage. The deciding question is what a customer can use after arriving directly.
When should I use a service or location page?
Use a service or location page when it gives the visitor the information that the profile entry promises. The page should explain the relevant service or location well enough for a direct visitor to make progress, rather than repeat a label and send the visitor to another generic destination. Google's people-first guidance uses direct-visitor usefulness and enough information to achieve the reader's goal as tests for content value, while its spam policies warn about intermediate pages that are less useful than the final destination.46

For a location-specific action link, use the page for that specific location. Google says local business links should lead to a dedicated landing page for the business, and a multi-location action link should lead to a website for a specific location rather than a general page or another location's page.3
If several service pages would repeat the same explanation, evidence, and customer next step, keep one useful page and link to it. The answer about separate pages for local services explains when a service deserves its own URL.
Can I link to a booking or appointment page?
Yes, when the profile offers the relevant business action link and the destination lets the customer complete that action. Google says business links are not available to every business, and eligibility can vary by category, country, or region. A local business action link must use a dedicated landing page for the actual business, and an order, reservation, or appointment link must support the named action.13
Keep the main website field pointed at the business website unless the current Business Profile interface gives you a separate action-link field. Do not treat a booking page as a universal replacement for the main website URL. Business action links also cannot use social-media sites, messaging links, app-store links, or link shorteners.13
What should a multi-location business link to?
A multi-location business should use the page for the actual location whenever the link is meant to support a location-specific action. A general homepage can be the main website destination when it clearly represents the business and helps visitors choose the right location, but it is not the right destination for an action that belongs to a different branch. Google's location rule applies to the individual business location, and its action-link rule specifically says to avoid a general or another-location landing page for a location-specific action.23
What should I check before saving the URL?
Use these checks on the exact URL you plan to enter:
- Identity and relevance: Confirm that the page represents the actual business and, when relevant, the actual location. It must not redirect or refer visitors to another business, another landing page, another phone number, or a social-media page.2
- Direct-visitor usefulness: Open the page as a customer. Ask whether the intended visitor would find it useful on arrival and learn enough to achieve the goal that brought them there. This is a usefulness check, not a special Google Business Profile ranking factor.4
- Action completion: If the URL is an order, reservation, or appointment link, complete the named action as a normal visitor. General information alone is not enough for an action link.3
- URL and crawl access: Enter the full HTTP or HTTPS URL. Make sure Googlebot and Google's automated link checks can reach the destination; a link that cannot be crawled may be removed.13
- Final-page check: Follow any redirect and confirm that the final page is the relevant, working destination. Google Search Central says a URL should resolve into an actual web address, while its doorway guidance warns about intermediate pages that are less useful than the final destination.56
Common questions
- No. The homepage is a practical default when it clearly represents the business or location and gives visitors a useful next step. Google's representation guidelines say the website should represent the individual business location, and its people-first guidance asks whether a direct visitor finds the page useful and learns enough to achieve their goal. A relevant service or location page is better when it meets those tests without sending the visitor through an intermediate page.
- A booking page can be the destination for an eligible booking or appointment action link. Google Business Profile Help says some business categories might be able to add additional links for online orders, reservations, or appointments, while its business-link policies require the designated action to be completable. Use the main Website field for the business website and a separate action link when the profile exposes that option.
- Google's public guidance supports checking location representation, crawl access, and direct-visitor usefulness. It does not say that choosing a service page instead of a homepage guarantees a higher Google Maps ranking. The cited Google Business Profile and Search Central pages describe destination and action-link requirements, not a ranking guarantee.
- No. Google's Business links policies & guidelines say local business links cannot be social-media sites, messaging links, app-store links, or link shorteners. This restriction describes business action links, not a claim that every website field has the same setup options.
- Use the final page only when it is the relevant destination for the actual business or location. Google's representation guidelines say not to provide URLs that redirect or refer users to landing pages or phone numbers other than those of the actual business. Google's Search spam policies separately describe doorway abuse as sending users to intermediate pages that are less useful than the final destination.
