What should a single-location business compare before choosing a BrightLocal alternative?

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder

Maps Agent has no contracts and lets you cancel anytime. For a single-location business, compare who operates the work, what the option measures, what it carries out, and what remains yours or belongs to another tier.1 Maps Agent's monthly tiers are month to month. Use the comparison index for the wider market and the published Maps Agent plans for the current first-party scope.

Start with the wider local SEO options comparison if you need a broader list. The single-location choice here covers BrightLocal, Whitespark, Moz Local, Semrush Local, Localo, Local Falcon, Yext as an enterprise contrast, and Maps Agent.

Which BrightLocal alternative fits a single-location business?

The practical difference is the operating model and the unit being bought. Some options sell a location plan, some sell credits or separate services, and Yext uses a custom commercial model. Use each vendor's public scope, not a rating or a predicted ranking result. Compare a provider's named services and costs, not a broad package name.

Option Price basis Who it is for What it does Who operates it What remains separate or changes at the next tier
BrightLocal Per active location, with monthly and annual billing views. A business, agency, or consultant comparing local-search plans and separate operating paths. Track is for local-search visibility insight. Manage adds AI Insights, business-detail syncing across key sites, and scheduled Google Business Profile posts. Grow adds review monitoring and responses across multiple sites, review-request campaigns, and website review publishing.2 The current pricing page describes the plan scope. Confirm which operating model and service path you are buying. Compare the selected plan's active-location count and billing view before assigning work to it.23
Whitespark Separate software and services, using monthly, per-location, range, and one-time bases. A buyer who wants to assemble local-search work by job. Its public pricing page separates Local Platform, Local Ranking Grids, Local Rank Tracker, Local Citation Finder, Reputation Builder, SEO Services, Listings Service, and Yext Replacement Service.4 The buyer or consultant chooses the individual product or service. Keep the billing basis beside the product name because the catalog mixes recurring, per-location, range, and one-time charges.4
Moz Local Per physical location, with monthly or annual billing. Accounts with more than 50 locations are directed to the team. A business that wants listing and local-presence functions organized by plan. Lite lists Local Grid, 90+ listing directories, Review Monitoring, and Data Health analytics. Preferred adds the ability to respond to reviews, competitor tracking, and social activity. Elite adds Listings AI, advanced social, and detailed reporting.5 Manage all locations in one centralized account, while each physical location requires its own subscription. Check the plan tier and the physical-location count before comparing the displayed billing view.5
Semrush Local Monthly per location for Local Base and Local Pro; Local Business is customizable for 20 or more locations. A business or marketer choosing between a base local package, a broader local package, and a larger-location path. Local Base includes GBP AI Agent and Map Rank Tracker. Local Pro adds Listing Management, Review Management, and GBP Optimization, and increases Map Rank Tracker credits.6 Local can be added to an existing Semrush subscription or purchased standalone. Compare the per-location limit and plan scope, especially when a business is on an older Semrush Local plan.6
Localo The checked view is yearly, billed annually, with +VAT; Enterprise is custom. A buyer comparing profile-count plans and optimization capacity. The checked view shows Single Business for 1 active Business Profile and 1 optimization seat. The Pro card says it is for managing 2-10 profiles and optimizing up to 5, while the feature table prints 10 active Business Profiles and Up to 5 optimization seats. The FAQ separately gives a 60-profile/30-seat Pro example, so record the exact display instead of assigning one universal Pro capacity.7 The public pricing page describes the profile and optimization limits. Keep the Pro card, feature-table values, billing view, VAT treatment, and Enterprise path visible; do not turn the separate FAQ example into a universal Pro capacity.7
Local Falcon Credit packages billed monthly or annually, using credits as geo-grid points. A buyer who wants geo-grid measurement metered by data points. One credit is one geo-grid data point. A 5x5 scan uses 25 credits. Monthly and annual package allotments expire at the end of their billing cycle; pay-as-you-go credits do not.8 The buyer chooses a credit package and plans scans around the credit rule. Keep the package's credit allotment, billing cycle, expiry rule, and pay-as-you-go exception beside the plan name.8
Yext Custom pricing by solution, location or provider count, and commitment length; billing is annual, with better rates stated for multi-year terms. A buyer willing to request a solution-specific commercial offer. Yext's public FAQ explains the pricing drivers rather than a fixed tier menu and points smaller businesses toward reseller partners.9 The commercial offer depends on the solution and footprint. Request the terms for the actual location or provider count and contract length before comparing it with a self-serve plan.9
Maps Agent Month to month. A single-location business comparing Google Maps profile work with separate local-marketing responsibilities. Autopost includes four monthly posts with original images, one-time business research, a public report page, and profile numbers. AI Team adds 100 monthly keywords, four products, four Q&A posts, four Q&A services, business-description optimization, a competitor rank report, and trade-and-city images. Partner adds a human team, the business's own photos, manual quality control, and a meet-your-team call.1 Autopost and AI Team are AI-delivered tiers. Partner adds the human team.1 Compare the profile work with any review, citation, directory, call-tracking, social, website, or approval responsibilities in your brief.

A geo-grid is an observation method: it shows how a local search appears from several points. It does not turn an observed position into a ranking promise. Before choosing, assign each action to the business, a provider, or a separate product.

What will BrightLocal make me operate myself?

BrightLocal offers three operating models on its public pages: do-it-yourself platform access, fully managed SEO services, and custom API solutions.2 Its managed service describes expert delivery with a dedicated account manager and compares its fixed monthly price with a 12-month campaign.10

BrightLocal's terms also matter to the responsibility decision. The platform trial lasts 14 days and requires no card or payment information upfront.11 Citation Builder is pay-per-submission and is excluded from the free trial.11 BrightLocal says a subscription can be cancelled at any time; after cancellation, reports are not accessible or updated with new data until reactivation.2 Its downgrade guidance says a downgrade takes effect immediately and the current period is not refunded.12

For citation work, BrightLocal says its team can create an account on a site and enter the customer's data for a manual submission.13 That is a specific service action, not evidence that every BrightLocal plan includes every citation task. Check which model and service you are buying.

What does each alternative leave to another tier or product?

  • BrightLocal's current plan display separates Track, Manage, and Grow by the named scope above. Check the selected location count and billing view before assigning work.2
  • Whitespark presents local platform, ranking grids, rank tracking, citation finding, reputation, SEO, and listings as separate catalog entries.4
  • Moz Local places Local Grid, directory coverage, review monitoring, the ability to respond to reviews, competitor tracking, social activity, Listings AI, and reporting across its displayed tiers.5
  • Semrush Local puts Listing Management, review tools, GBP Optimization, and increased Map Rank Tracker credits in Local Pro.6
  • Localo's Pro card says it is for managing 2-10 profiles and optimizing up to 5, while the feature table prints 10 active Business Profiles and Up to 5 optimization seats. Its FAQ separately gives a 60-profile/30-seat Pro example. Enterprise is a custom path; keep those displays separate.7
  • Local Falcon meters geo-grid data points as credits. Monthly and annual allotments expire at the end of their billing cycle, while pay-as-you-go credits do not.8
  • Maps Agent's offer covers profile publishing, research, reporting, profile numbers, profile content, and human quality control. Compare review replies, citations, directory listings, social management, websites, call tracking, and approval workflows separately against the brief.1

What does Google require when a third party changes a profile?

Google's third-party Business Profile policy is broader than the menu-URL consent line. A provider managing a profile should be checked against the whole operating boundary:14

  1. The owner must retain ownership or co-ownership. A third party may be a manager, but the owner should not surrender ownership to the provider.14
  2. The provider must obtain the owner's consent before making changes or disabling a profile. The owner must be informed of all changes and edits.14
  3. The owner must be able to end the relationship quickly. Within seven business days of notice, Google's policy says the provider must let the business disassociate its Google Account from the service and regain exclusive control, and must relinquish or remove its permissions.14
  4. If a provider charges a management fee, Google requires the provider to tell the customer in writing before management begins that the Business Profile is a service Google provides at no extra cost, disclose the fee on customer invoices, and, for a third party that primarily serves small or medium-sized businesses, share Google's disclosure notice with all customers.14
  5. Consent for claiming or managing a profile must be express and shown in writing or through a positive action such as checking a box. Verbal consent is not enough, and responding to reviews requires the business owner's explicit approval.14
  6. A provider cannot guarantee top placement on Google.14 Profile edits also need to remain accurate and within Google's rules.14

The menu-URL rule is one example of the same boundary: Google says a third party managing a profile must notify the owner and obtain consent before submitting a menu URL.15 Keep ownership, consent, fee disclosure, and the exit path in the agreement you sign.

What does Maps Agent include and exclude?

The Maps Agent public pricing page presents the same three month-to-month plans, Autopost, AI Team, and Partner, as the row above.1

Maps Agent's offer is narrower than a general local marketing platform:

  • Autopost includes four monthly posts with original images, one-time business research, a public report page, and profile numbers.1
  • AI Team includes Autopost plus 100 monthly keywords mapped to intent and service, four products, four Q&A posts, four Q&A services, business description optimization, a competitor position-grid rank report, and trade- and city-matched images.1
  • Partner adds a human team on the account, including a personal manager, the business's own photos on the profile, manual quality control, and a meet-your-team call.1

No Maps Agent tier covers managing or replying to customer reviews, creating citations, distributing directory listings, measuring calls, managing social media, building websites, promising rankings, providing a real-time dashboard, or running an approval process.1 Assign each responsibility to your business, a separate provider, or a separate product before you buy.

Is Maps Agent a BrightLocal alternative for every local SEO task?

No. Maps Agent focuses on Google Maps profile work and the AI-delivered content and reporting named above. BrightLocal covers a wider set of local-search workflows and offers platform, managed, and API operating models.2101 If citations, directory listings, or responding to reviews are part of the brief, keep those responsibilities with the business or a provider whose public scope names them.

How can I repeat this comparison?

Open the same public pages on one read date. Use the page controls before copying plan names and exact price strings into the comparison record:

Vendor Page and control to use
BrightLocal Pricing page. Set Locations managed to 1, then read both Monthly and Annually.
Whitespark Pricing page. Keep All prices in USD and read software and services as separate entries.
Moz Local Pricing page. Read both Pay monthly and Pay yearly; keep the 50+ location Enterprise path separate.
Semrush Local Pricing and plans. Read Local Base and Local Pro per location; keep the 20+ location Local Business path separate.
Localo Pricing page. Set the profile selector to 1, read the yearly view, and keep the +VAT label and Enterprise path.
Local Falcon Pricing page. Read both Package Type: Monthly and Annual; keep Enterprise separate.
Yext Pricing FAQ. Record the solution, location or provider count, and commitment mechanics; the page has no fixed tier menu.
Maps Agent Pricing page. Keep the three published tiers separate, with month-to-month billing and no annual view.

Keep each displayed billing basis and unit as shown. Do not convert annual totals, credit packages, profiles, locations, or map points into another unit. Record any source date stated on the page separately from the read date; when the page states no source date, record not stated on page. Repeat the check at least quarterly and immediately after an event-triggered change such as a pricing-page redesign, plan-name change, changed price, or changed billing, location, profile, or credit selector.
