Google Maps’ “Copy link” action creates a shareable Google Maps URL for the map or place currently selected, so you can send that map or place to someone else.1,2
On a computer, Google places the control in this sequence: Share or embed map → Send a link → Copy link. Google describes that branch as sharing a link through email or text. Embed a map → Copy HTML is a separate branch for putting a map on a web page.1 The Google Maps URL documentation describes Maps URLs as cross-platform links that launch Google Maps and display map or place details.2
On Android and iPhone or iPad, Google’s current Help path uses the label Share: search for a place or drop a pin, tap the place name or address, tap Share, and choose an app.3,4 The cited mobile steps do not name a Copy link control.
The copied URL is not a Place ID. Google uses a Place ID as a textual identifier for a place in the Google Places database and on Google Maps, including in supported Maps Platform API requests.5 It is also not a review-request link: Google gives that link the narrower purpose of helping customers leave reviews through the Business Profile’s Read Reviews → Get more reviews path.6 An existing short-name URL such as g.page/[yourcustomname] is another kind of profile destination. Google says existing short names and URLs still work, but new short names cannot be created or edited.7
Google Maps uses the Copy link label in its sharing interface, and Google’s Help page documents it as part of that flow. The related answer on getting a Google Business Profile URL covers the complete customer-facing sharing task; this entry defines the control itself.
