How do I add social media links to my Google Business Profile?

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder

Google Business Profile lets you add one social media link for each of seven supported platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. Open the profile, choose Edit profile > Contact > Social profiles > Edit, select a platform, enter its URL in Web address, and choose Save. Google says the feature is available only in select regions and may not be available on every profile.

Use the Google Business Profile editor's Edit profile, Contact, and Social profiles controls.

  1. Open your Google Business Profile while signed in to the Google Account linked to it.
  2. Select Edit profile, then Contact.
  3. Next to Social profiles, select Edit.
  4. From the Social profile dropdown, select the platform you want to add.
  5. In Web address, enter the social profile URL. To add a different platform, select Add social profile.
  6. Select Save.

Google's editing guide says verified Business Profiles can be edited from Google Search or Google Maps, but some businesses might need to verify first before making changes. Available controls can also differ between Search, Maps, and the device's operating system. The Google Business Profile hub covers the other profile fields you can manage.

Which social media platforms can I add to my Google Business Profile, and why might one be missing?

Google lists Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. Social links are available only in select regions and may not be available on a particular Google Business Profile.

Google's social-link guidance lists these URL patterns:

Platform Google-listed URL format
Facebook https://www.facebook.com/{username}
Instagram https://www.instagram.com/{username}
LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/{username} or https://www.linkedin.com/company/{username}
Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/{username}
TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/{username}
X (formerly Twitter) https://www.twitter.com/{username}
YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/{username}, https://www.youtube.com/user/{username}, or https://www.youtube.com/@{username}

Google allows one social media link per platform, not one social link total. A Google Business Profile can have one Facebook link and one YouTube link, but it cannot have two YouTube links.

Check that the URL is valid for the selected platform and is not broken, duplicated, or unsupported.

When a social media link is rejected or fails to save, Google says to ensure that the URL isn't broken, duplicated, invalid, or pointing to an unsupported platform. Compare the address with the format for the selected platform, remove a duplicate link for that platform, and try Save again.

Google Business Profile does not currently provide performance metrics or click tracking for social media links.

Google's social-link guidance describes these links as a way to share more about a business and connect with customers. It does not provide a built-in click report for them.

Adding a social media link is not a documented Google Maps ranking promise. Google's local-ranking guidance says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and prominence. Its social-link guidance explains how to share more about a business, but does not identify adding a social link as a local-ranking factor.

Common questions

Can Google add a social media link to my Business Profile automatically?
Yes. Google says some Business Profiles may show social media links automatically when they meet certain requirements. That automatic display does not make the feature available to every profile.
