Which Google Business Profile attributes can I control?
Google Business Profile attributes have three control boundaries. Owners can edit some directly. Field availability depends on location, country, and business category. Customer-populated attributes and Google-supplied profile changes are not fully owner-controlled. Available attributes sit under Edit profile > More, and their names can change.
Which Google Business Profile attributes can I edit?
Google lets an owner edit some attributes that describe what the business offers or provides. Google's Google Business Profile hub explains the wider profile, while the attribute families below show the kinds of details an owner may find in the editor. The exact choices still depend on the profile.
| Control boundary | What Google documents | What the owner can do |
|---|---|---|
| Direct editing | Some available attributes can be edited directly. | Choose the value shown in the editor, then save it for review. |
| Availability | The fields and names can depend on location, country, and business category. | Use only the fields Google makes available for that profile. |
| Customer and Google inputs | Some attributes may be populated from visiting customers. Separately, Google may update profile information from user reports or licensed content. | Correct an editable field or review an eligible suggestion. Not every Google update can be managed through the profile. |
| What Google documents | Examples |
|---|---|
| Example categories | Amenities and Payments. |
| Example attributes | Wi-Fi, outdoor seats, and Cash-only. |
| Accessibility | Hearing assistance devices, plus wheelchair accessibility for entrances, restrooms, seating, parking, and elevators. |
| Recycling | Batteries, clothing, electronics, glass bottles, household hazardous waste, ink cartridges, light bulbs, metal cans, plastic bags, plastic bottles, and plastic foam. |
| Business identity | Asian-owned, Black-owned, Latino-owned, LGBTQ+ owned, Disabled-owned, Indigenous-owned, Veteran-owned, Women-owned, and Small business. |
The identity choices are owner-selectable. An owner can choose more than one and opt in or out of an identity attribute at any time. Google defines Small business here as making less than $10 million a year and excludes franchises. Google may also apply the attribute automatically from its information.
How do I edit an available attribute?
Google's Manage your business attributes guidance gives this menu path:
- Open your Business Profile.
- Select Edit profile, then More.
- Next to the attribute category, select Edit. Google gives Amenities and Payments as examples of categories.
- Next to the attribute, select Yes or No. Google gives Wi-Fi and Cash-only as examples.
- Select Save.
The attribute editor only offers fields available to that profile. For a related profile publishing task, see how to publish products and services on your Google Business Profile.
Why is the attribute I need missing?
Google says some attributes can be changed only in certain locations, countries, or business categories. Google also says attribute names may change over time. A missing attribute therefore does not establish that the business lacks the feature; first check the profile's category, location, and country context, then look again for the current name.
For a software integration, Google's Business Profile API attributes.list method can use a location, or a primary category and country, to return available attributes. The API also accepts a language selector and requires the business.manage OAuth scope. A showAll request still requires a region and language, so the API does not provide one universal list independent of market.
Can customers supply attributes, and can Google update my profile?
Yes. Google says some attributes may be populated from inputs supplied by customers who visit the business.
Separately, Google gathers Business Profile information from sources such as user reports and licensed content. Google may update a profile when those sources report information as incorrect or outdated. Google says information changed by Google appears in blue in the profile editor. Black or white text indicates no Google update.
Google also says an owner cannot manage every Google update through the Business Profile. A suggested edit that requires review may generate an email or in-product notification. The owner then has 4 days to accept or reject it. If the owner does not respond, Google may publish the change when other public information, such as the business website, supports it. Google may also apply some policy-compliant suggested edits without prior review.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blue text in the editor | Google changed the information. | Compare it with the business's current facts, then correct an available field if needed. |
| A notification asking you to review a suggestion | Google is giving you a review window. | Accept or reject the suggestion within 4 days. |
| A changed value with no prior notification | Google may have applied a suggested edit without prior review. | Check the value against the business and use the editor when the field is available. |
How long does an attribute edit take to appear?
Google says a review of Business Profile attribute edits usually takes about 10 minutes, but it can sometimes take up to 30 days. Reopen the profile and check the current attribute value when the change matters to customers. A saved edit remains subject to Google's review and the availability rules for that profile.

Common questions
- Can I choose more than one identity attribute?
- Yes. Google lets an owner choose more than one identity attribute for a Business Profile. An owner can also opt in or opt out of an identity attribute at any time. The choices Google displays depend on the profile. Under this guidance, Small business means less than $10 million a year and excludes franchises. Google may automatically apply the attribute from its own information.
- Does adding a recycling attribute change how my business appears?
- It can. Google says that when a business adds a recycling attribute, the business shows in search results with a recycling icon. The recycling options themselves depend on the business category, so the available materials may differ between profiles.
- Can Google change my profile after I save an edit?
- Yes. Google may update Business Profile information from reports and other sources, and some suggested edits may be applied without prior review. Google marks information it changed in blue in the editor. When Google sends a review notification for a suggested edit, the owner has 4 days to accept or reject it.
