Troubleshooting

Why is my Google Business Profile social link not showing?

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder5 min read

Start with the state you can see. A missing Google Business Profile social link can mean that the social-link feature is unavailable for the region or profile, the platform is unsupported, the URL is broken or in the wrong format, the same platform already has a link, or the link saved but has no Google measurement. Google says social links are available only in select regions and may not be available on a particular profile. Google also says it does not currently provide performance metrics or click tracking for social media links.12

First, identify which problem you have

What you see First check What to do
The Social profiles control is missing Feature availability Google says the feature is limited to select regions and may be unavailable on a particular profile.12 A different URL cannot create a missing control.
The platform you want is not in the menu Supported-platform list Choose one of Google's supported platforms. The list is Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X, and YouTube.1
Google rejects the link or Save fails URL, duplicate, and platform checks Confirm the URL follows Google's format for that platform, is not broken or invalid, and is not a second link for the same platform.1
A social link appears that you did not add Automatic-link branch Google says some profiles may receive a social link automatically. You can replace it, or use Google's contact path if you still want it removed.1
The link saved but there is no click or performance report Measurement availability This is not evidence that the link failed. Google says it does not currently provide performance metrics or click tracking for social media links.1

Is the Social profiles option missing from my Business Profile?

Google says social media links are available only in select regions and may not be available on a particular Google Business Profile. Google's separate Business Profile editing guidance repeats the regional limitation and the supported-platform list.12

If Social profiles does not appear under Edit profile > Contact, treat availability as the first branch.12 Do not keep changing the URL. The owner-side steps for adding a social media link to your Google Business Profile apply only after the social-profile control is available. The Google Business Profile hub explains the other profile fields you can manage.

Is the platform supported, and does the URL use Google's format?

Google lists seven supported platforms and gives a required URL pattern for each one:1

Platform URL pattern Google lists
Facebook https://www.facebook.com/{username}
Instagram https://www.instagram.com/{username}
LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/{username} or https://www.linkedin.com/company/{username}
Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/{username}
TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/{username}
X (formerly Twitter) https://www.twitter.com/{username}
YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/{username}, https://www.youtube.com/user/{username}, or https://www.youtube.com/@{username}

When a social link is rejected or fails to save, Google says to check that the URL is not broken, duplicated, invalid, or pointing to an unsupported platform.1 Compare the address with the pattern for the selected platform before trying Save again.

To add or edit the link, open the profile, choose Edit profile > Contact, select Edit next to Social profiles, choose the platform, enter the address in Web address, and choose Save.1 The separate diagnosis for a business not showing on Google Maps covers profile-level visibility problems, not social-link editing.

Google allows one social media link per platform, not one social link total. One Facebook link and one YouTube link can coexist, but a second YouTube link cannot.1

Return to Edit profile > Contact > Social profiles and edit the existing entry for that platform instead of adding another one.1 A link from a different supported platform is not a duplicate of the first platform's link.

Some Business Profiles may show social media links automatically if they meet certain requirements. If Google adds a link, Google says you can replace it with a different link. If you still want it removed, Google's social-link guidance directs you to contact Google.1

Google's broader guidance says a Business Profile can include information the owner did not add. Google lists publicly available web content, licensed third-party data, user contributions, and Google's interactions with a local place or business as sources of profile information.3 Treat an unexpected social link as a different diagnostic branch from a URL that Google rejected.

Google does not currently provide performance metrics or click tracking for social media links.1 If Save accepted the link but no social-link metric exists, the missing report is a measurement limitation, not proof that the URL failed to save.

  1. Open the Google Business Profile editor while signed in to the account that manages the profile.12
  2. Go to Edit profile > Contact > Social profiles and record whether the control appears.1
  3. If it appears, choose a supported platform, compare the URL with Google's format, and check for an existing link from that same platform.1
  4. Select Save and note whether Google rejects the link, accepts it, or shows a different link automatically.1

Google's current social-link guidance does not publish a separate waiting time or owner-side override for a valid link that saves but still seems absent from the public profile.1 Return to Google's social-link guidance for its current support path. For a Google-added link that you want removed, use the contact route that Google names on that page.1

If the Business Profile itself is absent from Google Maps, use the separate diagnosis for a business not showing on Google Maps. A social-link problem and a missing-profile problem are different branches.

Common questions

Does a missing Social profiles option mean that my URL is wrong?
Not necessarily. A missing control points first to Google's regional and profile-specific availability limits. URL-format checks apply when the social-profile editor is available.
Is the absence of a click report proof that the social link is not showing?
No. Google says it does not currently provide performance metrics or click tracking for social media links.
