Google map pack
The Google map pack is the trade's name for the map-and-listings block that a place-related search puts above the ordinary links: a small set of businesses, each drawn from a listing Google hosts, shown together with a map of where they are.
Google does not use the phrase. Its documentation calls the same thing "local results",1 and it publishes neither a number of slots nor a weighting for them, so "three-pack" and "snack pack" are vernacular for an observation, not names for a product with rules.2
What makes it worth distinguishing from every other block on the page: distance from the searcher is one of the three factors Google names, so two people a few streets apart are looking at different sets. There is no single ordering to occupy, which is most of what ranking higher on Google Maps turns out to mean.
