Troubleshooting
Why is Google asking me to verify my Business Profile again after I changed it?
First check Edit profile → Check your edit status while signed in to the Google Account linked to the profile. Pending, Not approved, and Accepted are edit-review results, not re-verification requests. Edit review usually takes up to 10 minutes, but Google says it can sometimes take up to 30 days. If the profile separately shows Get verified, Give additional info to re-verify, or Review issues, follow that verification branch instead. After you complete verification, Google says the review takes up to 5 business days, although rare reviews can take longer.1,2,3

How can I tell whether Google is reviewing my edit or asking for verification again?
Use the exact status or button you can see:
| What you see | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | Google is still reviewing the saved edit. | Use Check your edit status and allow the edit-review window: usually up to 10 minutes, sometimes up to 30 days. |
| Not approved | Google might not have been able to confirm the edit's accuracy. | Compare the changed field with the real-world business information. Use Google's appeal route if the status offers one. |
| Accepted | The updated information displays on the Business Profile. | Check the displayed information. Continue with verification only if a separate verification signal appears. |
| Get verified appears again | Google says it could not completely verify the business. | Select Get Verified and use the verification method or methods Google offers. |
| Give additional info to re-verify | Google says the request is likely related to recently updated business details. | Select Get Verified and try to verify the profile again. |
| Review issues after video verification | Google says the video was not accepted. | Select Review issues and follow the on-screen instructions. |
Which change may have triggered the new verification request?
Google's help pages identify different rules for the business name, address, and category. They do not say that every profile edit automatically triggers re-verification.
| Changed field | What Google says | What to compare before trying again |
|---|---|---|
| Business name | A verified business-name change might require verification again. | The name should match the business's real-world signage, stationery, and other branding. |
| Address | Moving a verified business to a new address requires verification again. | The address must be full and accurate. If customers do not visit the business address, Google says the address can be hidden for a service-area profile. |
| Business category | Adding or editing an existing category might lead to another verification request. | Choose the fewest categories needed to describe the core business. Use an available category rather than inventing a custom one. |
These are conditional rules, not a promise that a particular edit will produce a prompt. Start with the field you changed most recently, then compare the saved value with the Google Business Profile representation guidelines.2,4,5
What should I do when Get verified appears again?
Select Get Verified and complete one of the methods Google offers for that profile. Google determines the available methods automatically, and the options can depend on the business type, public information, region, or business hours. You cannot manually switch the profile to a method Google has not offered, and some businesses may need more than one method.3
Prepare evidence that matches the method on screen. For live video verification, Google says to be at the business and show:
- the current location, such as outside signs, nearby businesses, or a street sign;
- the business or its equipment, such as products, branded equipment, marketing materials, or work tools; and
- proof that you manage the business, such as access to employee-only areas, a cash register, a kitchen, storage, non-sensitive business documents, or keys.
If Google offers phone or SMS verification, you need access to the business phone or text messages. Email verification requires access to the email address shown on the verification screen. Mail verification requires a correct mailing address. These options are available only when Google presents them for the profile.3
What if I am waiting for a postcard code after the edit?
Keep the business name, address, and category unchanged while the postcard code is in the mail. Google says most codes arrive within 14 days, codes expire after 30 days, and changing the name, address, or category makes the mailed code unusable. Requesting a new code invalidates the code already in the mail and starts another mailing attempt.3
The 14-day statement describes when most codes arrive, not a guarantee. If the profile shows a different verification method or a new prompt, use the option Google currently offers rather than assuming a postcard is available.3
How long should I wait after I submit the new verification?
The wait depends on the branch you are in:
- For a saved profile edit with Pending status, Google says review usually takes up to 10 minutes and can sometimes take up to 30 days.1
- For a completed verification attempt, Google says review takes up to 5 business days, with rare longer reviews.3
- For a postcard, Google says most codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30 days. Editing the business name, address, or category, or requesting a replacement code, changes that attempt.3
Do not apply the 30-day edit window to a completed verification review, or the 5-business-day verification window to an edit that is still Pending. Match the wait to the status or prompt you can see.
What should I do if verification still fails?
Follow the on-screen instructions for the method Google provided. If Google offers another verification method, you can try the available option. For live video or postcard verification, Google says to contact Business Profile support if you’re still unable to verify. Keep the changed field, the exact status or button, the method you tried, and the evidence you used in your notes so you can describe the same case accurately.3
If the problem is Not approved rather than a verification prompt, use the appeal link when Google makes it available. That branch concerns Google's inability to confirm the accuracy of the edit, so compare the name, address, or category with the Google representation guidelines before appealing.1,5
Common questions
- No. Google's documentation says a verified business-name change might require verification again, a move to a new address requires it again, and adding or editing an existing category might require it. Check the edit status and the visible verification prompt instead of treating every edit as an automatic re-verification event.
- Only from the methods Google offers for that profile. Google says verification methods are determined automatically and cannot be changed manually. Availability depends on the business type, public information, region, or business hours.
- Review issues after video verification means Google did not accept the video and wants you to follow the displayed instructions. Get verified appearing again means Google could not completely verify the business and wants you to try the offered verification path again.
