Google Business Profile edit
Definition
A Google Business Profile edit is a change to the business information or attributes shown on a Business Profile. It may be made by an owner or manager, applied by Google after an accuracy report, or suggested in Google Maps by someone who does not own or manage the profile.

The word edit does not always mean that the business changed its own profile. The person who made the change, and the route that person should use, determine what happens next.
Who can make a Google Business Profile edit?
An owner or manager can edit the profile from the Google Account linked to it, directly on Google Search or Maps. This is the business-controlled edit route. Owners and managers can edit business information and attributes. Managers have almost the same access as owners, but they cannot add or remove users or remove the profile.1,2
Use the Google Business Profile editing guide when you control the profile and need to change information. The page may show different management features on Search and Maps, or on different devices.1
What is a Google-applied update?
Google may update a Business Profile after receiving reports that its information is inaccurate. Google says the business receives a notification and sees an alert in the profile's Edit profile section when this happens. Google also says it uses various sources, including user reports and licensed content, to update Business Profiles.3,4
This is not the same as an owner or manager edit. If the profile shows an Edit profile alert, inspect that alert and compare the current information with the business's records. The word may matters: Google describes this as a possible update, not a change that happens after every report.3
What does “Suggest an edit” mean?
In Google Maps, the route is to sign in, find the place, choose Suggest an edit, select an attribute, make the change, and submit. Google says attribute editing is available only in certain countries and regions. Google reviews submitted edits, changes may take time to appear, and a suggestion that tries to significantly change a business may be rejected.5
| Situation | Correct route | What the route means |
|---|---|---|
| You own or manage the profile | Edit the profile on Google Search or Maps | You are changing information through the linked Google Account. |
| Google reports an update in Edit profile | Inspect the alert and the current profile information | Google may have applied a change after receiving an accuracy report. |
| You do not own or manage the profile | Use Suggest an edit in Google Maps | You are submitting feedback for Google to review, not changing the profile directly. |
Is an ownership request a Google Business Profile edit?
No. If a verified profile for the business is owned by someone else, the business owner uses Google's ownership-request route. That process asks the current profile owner for access. It is not an ordinary profile edit and does not give a person permission to change the profile immediately.6
