Can I edit a photo after uploading it to my Google Business Profile?

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder

For an ordinary business photo, replace the file by deleting the old photo and adding the new one. Google documents separate Change controls for logos and cover photos, while customer-uploaded photos use a report process when they violate Google's policies.

Which photo control should I use?

Photo type Google documents What to do
Ordinary business photo you uploaded Add photos and Delete Delete the old photo, then add the replacement file.12
Logo or cover photo Change logo or Change cover Use the matching Change control, then select the replacement image.3
Customer photo or video Report policy violations Report the media for review when it violates Google's policies; Google says it may be removed after review.67

How do I replace an ordinary business photo?

Google's current help separates ordinary business-photo management into Add photos and Delete controls.12 Use them in this order to replace an image:

  1. Open your Business Profile and select Photos.
  2. At the top right of the old photo, select Delete, then select Delete again.
  3. Return to Photos, select Add photos, then Select images and photos, and choose the replacement file.

For the wider upload workflow, see how to publish photos and posts on a Google Business Profile. The profile must be verified for uploaded media to show to customers.5

What access do I need to replace a photo?

Sign in to the Google Account linked to the Business Profile. Google says it reviews changes before updating them live.4 For broader profile changes and removal routes, see how to edit or remove your Google Business Profile.

Can I change a logo or cover photo?

Yes. Google documents separate controls for these image roles. Open Photos, select Change cover or Change logo, select Select image, choose the replacement, and select Open.3

Google distinguishes logos, cover photos, and ordinary business photos. Choosing a cover photo does not guarantee that it will appear as the first image on the profile.5

What should I check if the replacement photo does not show?

Check the media status before uploading another copy. Pending means the media is still uploading or processing, or the Business Profile is not verified. Not approved means Google flagged the media for violating its policies. Google says photos and videos can take up to 24–48 hours to appear on the Business Profile.5

Can I edit a photo a customer uploaded?

Customer-uploaded media uses a different path from a photo the business added. Google says businesses cannot stop customers from posting photo updates. If a customer photo or video violates Google's policies, report it for review; Google says it may remove the media and that review can take several business days.67

In Google Search, open the Business Profile, select Photos, select View all photos, choose the customer photo or video, select Report a problem, choose a reason, and select Submit. In the Google Maps app, use Business → See Business Profile → Photos → select the media → More → Report. The page Can I delete a customer photo from my Google Business Profile? covers these reporting paths in detail.
