What do you do when your Google Business Profile breaks or is suspended?
A suspended profile disappears for the public and locks its owners out, and the way back is the Business Profile appeals tool rather than a new listing. The evidence form inside it must be submitted within 60 minutes of opening. Most profiles that vanish, though, were never suspended at all.
What happens when Google suspends a Business Profile?
Two things at once. Google's guidance is blunt about both: the public can't go to the profile, and the owner and managers can't act on the profile. The listing stops appearing in Search and Maps, the dashboard stops accepting edits, and the profile keeps existing in Google's systems while nobody can reach it. Nothing about the business's other Google accounts changes.
Why does Google suspend a profile?
Google states it may suspend or disable Business Profiles that don't follow our guidelines, and stops there — the notice rarely names the clause. In practice the broken rule is usually about representing the business as it exists: a name padded with keywords, an address where no customer is received, or a category describing an ambition. Maps Agent scores those public fields in its free Visibility Score audit.
How do you appeal a suspended Google Business Profile?
Through the Business Profile appeals tool, signed in with the account that manages the profile. The appeal asks what the business is and lets you attach evidence — a licence, a utility bill, signage, whatever shows the business exists where it says it does. One detail catches people out: once you open the evidence form, you must submit it within 60 minutes or it won't be attached to your appeal. Gather the documents first.
What must you not do while an appeal is open?
Create a second profile for the same business. Google's guidance says so directly — do not create a new Business Profile for the same business while your appeal is under review — and the reason is mechanical: the new listing becomes a duplicate, and duplicates are one of the things that get suspended. The wait is dead time that has to be waited.
What happens if the appeal succeeds?
Google reinstates both the profile and its owner and managers, so access returns with the listing rather than needing to be re-requested. Visibility does not snap back instantly: Google's guidance on profiles not showing notes that new and recently changed listings take time to settle, with edits to business information taking up to 3 days to appear.
Why has a profile vanished when it was never suspended?
Three ordinary causes account for most of it. The profile was never verified, and Google states only verified businesses can show their business info on Maps and Search. Or it is a duplicate — an existing verified profile, the same address, or a second listing for different services — and a profile considered a duplicate won't show on Google Search or Maps. Or it is simply new: rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear.
How do you fix a duplicate profile?
Two different repairs for two different situations. A duplicate you created yourself can be removed from your Google Account, and Google warns that all content and linked managers will be removed, so make sure to remove the correct profile. Two profiles that should be one are merged by reporting a suggestion on Google Maps; reviews are combined, but replies to reviews may be lost. Two genuinely separate businesses wrongly merged are an appeal to support.
Why can't you edit your Google Business Profile?
Editing stops for three reasons that look identical from the dashboard. The profile is suspended, and owners and managers can't act on it. Or the account signed in holds a manager role someone has withdrawn. Or the edit went through and is waiting — business information can take up to 3 days to appear, and a change that reverts afterwards was rejected rather than lost.

Common questions
- How many times can you appeal a Google Business Profile suspension?
- Google publishes no cap on appeals, and repeated identical submissions do not improve the odds — each is read against the same guidelines. What changes an outcome is new evidence: a document, a photo of signage, a licence number that was not in the first appeal. Sending the same form again is not a second attempt.
- Is Google Business Profile being discontinued?
- Nothing in Google's help documentation announces an end to Business Profiles; the pages describing creation, verification, suspension and appeals are all current. The question usually comes from a profile that disappeared for one of the ordinary reasons above, or from a scam call claiming the listing will be deleted unless someone pays.
- Does it cost anything to get a suspended profile reinstated?
- No. The appeals tool is free and Google runs no paid queue beside it. Its own third-party policy requires anyone charging a management fee to tell customers that Business Profile is a service provided at no extra cost, which is the sentence to read back to a caller offering paid reinstatement.
- Do reviews survive a suspension?
- Google's reinstatement guidance says it reinstates both the profile and its owner and managers, and names no separate step for the reviews. A merge is where review history changes shape — reviews are combined, but replies to reviews may be lost, so replies can vanish while the reviews stay. Removing a duplicate takes all of its content with it.
- How long does verification take if the profile needs it again?
- Google's verification guidance gives the working numbers: a review can take up to 5 business days, a mailed postcard code arrives within 14 days, and a code expires 30 days after it is issued. A profile waiting on verification is not suspended — it is simply not yet allowed to show.
