How do you choose a Google Business Profile repair service?

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder

Choose a provider that can document the displayed policy reason, prepare matching evidence, guide you through Google's official appeal path, preserve your ownership, and give you a clear exit. Reject promises of reinstatement, ranking, Google affiliation, or control over Google's decision. A success-only fee is a contract term, not proof that the provider can influence the appeal.

What can a Google Business Profile repair service legitimately do?

A legitimate provider can diagnose the restriction shown by Google, help prepare relevant evidence, and guide the business owner through the official appeal tool. The provider cannot decide whether Google reinstates the profile.

Google's appeal guidance says that a business outside the UK and EEA can appeal a suspended or disabled profile through the appeals tool. The tool shows the moderation date, reason, policy link, appeal eligibility, and decision status. The owner can review those details, attach optional evidence, and submit the appeal; Google reviews it and sends the decision by email.1 The answer on fixing a suspended Business Profile covers the status branches. This page adds the provider checks around that process.

Provider work What to verify before paying What the work does not prove
Diagnose the displayed policy reason The provider can show the moderation reason and policy link that Google displays for this profile. A provider cannot replace the displayed reason with a guess based only on when an edit or suspension happened.
Prepare evidence The provider explains which profile fact each document supports. Any document you submit should match the Business Profile's business name and address. Google's examples are optional evidence, not a universal requirement to submit every registration, license, tax, or utility document.
Navigate the official appeal The provider keeps the business owner involved in the Google Account and the official appeals tool. The provider cannot approve the appeal, shorten Google's review, or send a decision on Google's behalf.
Keep the case within Google's process The provider tells you not to submit duplicate appeals for the same issue before a decision and not to create a second profile for the same business. A paid shortcut is not a separate reinstatement channel.

If a provider cannot show which part of this work it will perform, ask for a written scope before granting access. Routine Google Business Profile management is a different buying question from suspension or reinstatement help.

What access should you grant a Google Business Profile repair provider?

Keep the business-controlled account as Owner or Co-Owner, invite a provider as Manager when an existing profile needs help, and use an owner-controlled invitation instead of handing over the primary account credentials.

Google's Business Profile third-party policy says the business must retain ownership or co-ownership. For an existing profile, Google tells a provider to ask for Manager access rather than Owner access.2 Use the access steps in how to get access to your Google Business Profile to record the account and role before work starts.

Access check Safe evidence from the provider Stop if the provider asks for
Ownership The business-controlled account stays Owner or Co-Owner throughout the engagement. Permanent ownership transfer or removal of the business's owner account.
Role A provider working on an existing profile explains why Manager access is enough for the agreed work. Owner access without a specific, documented reason.
Credentials The business sends an invitation to the provider's account and keeps its own sign-in under business control. The owner's password or a request to move the profile into an account the business cannot control.
Exit The agreement names how the provider will disassociate its managing Google Account, remove its permissions, and return exclusive control. A blocked exit, a threat that the profile will disappear, or an account held until an unrelated payment is made.

Google's policy says that, after notice from an end customer, a third party must provide a way to disassociate the managing Google Account and regain exclusive control within 7 business days, then relinquish and remove its permissions.2 That is an access and offboarding rule, not a promise that the profile will be reinstated.

Which repair-service promises are reasons to walk away?

Walk away from a provider that guarantees reinstatement or ranking, claims to be Google or Google-affiliated without support, threatens your profile, keeps access hostage, or recommends duplicate appeals or a replacement profile.

Google's third-party policy gives examples of false, misleading, or unrealistic claims and untrustworthy behavior, including guarantees of top placement, misrepresenting a relationship with Google, threatening that a client will lose a profile, and keeping a profile hostage for money.2 A promise of reinstatement belongs in the same buyer stop-check because Google, not the provider, makes the appeal decision. Do not treat the table as a finding that every provider making a bad promise has violated Google's policy; use the listed examples as checks before you buy.

Promise or demand Why it is unsafe What to ask instead
“Guaranteed reinstatement” The provider does not control Google's review or decision. What diagnosis, evidence preparation, and appeal guidance are included if Google denies the appeal?
“Guaranteed ranking” or top placement Google lists guarantees of top placement as an example of an unrealistic third-party claim. Which profile work will be performed, and which results remain outside the provider's control?
“We are Google” or “we have a special Google connection” Google prohibits misrepresenting a relationship with Google. Which official Google tool or support route will the business owner use?
“Give us the password” or “you lose the profile if you leave” The request removes owner control and resembles the access hostage-taking behavior Google lists. Which role, invitation, records, and offboarding process will the agreement use?
“Create another profile” or “send several appeals now” Google's appeal guidance says not to create a new profile for the same business or submit multiple appeals for the same issue before a decision. How will the provider keep work tied to the existing profile and current appeal status?

If the profile is visible but locked, do not let the label soft suspension replace the status Google actually shows. A provider should use the displayed restriction or appeal state to choose the next step.

Does a pay-on-success fee prove that a provider can get reinstatement?

No. A pay-on-success or contingent fee says when the provider expects payment; it does not show that the provider controls Google's moderation decision.

Google's appeal guidance says Google reviews the appeal and sends the decision by email.1 Google's third-party policy separately allows providers to charge management fees, while requiring written disclosure before management begins and disclosure on customer invoices.2 The conclusion that a success-only fee does not prove influence is a buyer inference from those two rules, not a Google statement that contingent fees are unlawful or unavailable. Ask what work the fee covers, what happens if Google denies the appeal, and whether any other costs remain due.

What should you put in the repair-service agreement?

Put the diagnosis, evidence work, appeal role, fee trigger, access role, reporting, and exit process in writing before the provider receives access.

Use this checklist:

  1. Record the exact moderation reason, policy link, appeal eligibility, and status shown in Google's tool.
  2. List the profile corrections the provider will check and the evidence it may help prepare.
  3. State that the business keeps ownership or co-ownership and that the provider's role is Manager when that matches the existing profile and agreed work.
  4. State who uses the official appeals tool and who receives Google's decision email.
  5. Describe the fee, including the success condition, the denial case, any additional charges, and when each charge is invoiced.
  6. Name the report or work record you will receive, including the profile-specific work performed and documents submitted.
  7. Describe how the provider will remove its permissions and give the business exclusive control after termination.

This checklist complements the suspension and appeal steps; it does not create a second appeal path. If a provider will not put these terms in writing, do not grant access yet.

What can you do if a provider acts deceptively or refuses to release access?

Ask the provider to correct the problem first. If the conduct matches a Google third-party policy violation and the issue is not resolved, use Google's third-party complaint form. For a fee disagreement, use the agreement's dispute process; Google's complaint form is not for contract-breach disputes.

Google's third-party complaint form says to try to resolve an issue with the provider first. Google also says that it does not intervene in contract-breach disputes between a business and a third-party agency, and the form instructs you not to include confidential or sensitive information.3 Preserve the agreement, notices, access records, and provider messages while you use the route that applies.

Common questions

Can a provider promise reinstatement if I pay only after success?
No. A success-only fee changes the payment condition, not Google's review process. Google's appeal guidance says Google reviews the appeal and sends the decision by email. Ask the provider to name the work it will perform and what happens if Google denies the appeal.
Should I give a repair provider Owner access to my existing profile?
Usually no. Google says a business must retain ownership or co-ownership and tells providers to request Manager access when a client already has a profile. Keep the business-controlled Owner account active and make the provider's role and exit path explicit.
Can I create a new profile while the repair provider handles the appeal?
No. Google's appeal guidance says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business and not to submit multiple appeals for the same issue before receiving a decision. Keep the work tied to the existing profile and its displayed appeal status.
