Yes, Apple Business Connect, now called Apple Business, can change how a business's information is presented across Apple Maps and related Apple software. It does not replace Google Business Profile for visibility in Google's Maps and Search results.
What does Apple Business control for a local business?
Apple Business lets a business manage information and content that Apple displays on the location's place card.
Apple's location guide names a display name, description, photos, address, coordinates, hours, phone number, website, Actions, showcases, app information, categories, Good to Know attributes, and status as location information a business can configure.1 The Google Business Profile hub covers the separate Google listing rather than these Apple fields.
Apple's current Apple Business Connect User Guide calls the product Apple Business and says it combines capabilities previously found in Apple Business Connect and other Apple business products.4
| If your goal is to... | Maintain this surface | What the platform documents |
|---|---|---|
| Keep your business information accurate on Apple surfaces | Apple Business place card | Location details, photos, categories, and other place-card content can appear across Apple software.1 |
| Improve visibility in Google's local results | Google Business Profile | Google says complete, accurate information is more likely to show in local search results.3 |
| Promote a time-bound offer on an Apple location | Apple Business showcase | A showcase is a place-card module tied to a location and time period, such as Apple's example of 30 days.1 |
Where can an Apple place card appear?
Apple says a place card can appear in Apple Maps, Siri, Calendar, Messages, and other Apple software.1
Apple describes the place card as the starting point for location information and says optional areas can use data from the Apple ecosystem and related partners.1 The related Apple Intelligence and local business information answer covers the separate AI-assisted context. A business can therefore maintain an Apple-facing data surface beyond the Maps app. Apple's guide does not say that every field is controlled directly by the business or shown in every Apple experience.
Which Apple Business fields should I keep current?
Keep the location's name, address, coordinates, hours, phone, website, categories, photos, and other place-card content accurate.1
Apple gives each field a different customer-facing role:1
| Field | What Apple says it does |
|---|---|
| Address and coordinates | Help customers find and contact the location; coordinates help locate it on Apple Maps.1 |
| Hours | Show normal hours on the place card and, in some cases, when the location is closed.1 |
| Website | Show the brand's primary website for the place card in Apple Maps.1 |
| Categories | Help customers discover the Point Of Interest with an icon in Apple Maps.1 |
| Photos and showcases | Add visual content or highlight new items, deals, sales, or other promotional content on the place card.1 |
Apple also says a brand's name, logo, or cover photo can cascade to associated locations while each location can have its own cover photo and be managed separately.2
Do Apple categories or showcases guarantee better visibility?
No. Apple's documentation describes categories and showcases as place-card content, but it does not guarantee a ranking, position, or fixed amount of exposure.
Apple requires one primary category and allows up to 19 optional categories for additional functions. It describes a showcase as a dynamically presented place-card module for promotional content that is specific to a location and time period, with 30 days given as an example.1
Does Apple Business improve visibility in Google Maps?
Apple Business is not a substitute for Google Business Profile when the goal is visibility in Google's local results.13
Apple documents the Apple place card across Apple software.1 Google separately says that local results appear on Google Maps and Search, that businesses can use Business Profile to improve local ranking, and that complete and accurate information is more likely to show in local search results.3 Google's guidance also says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity.3
Treat Apple Business and Google Business Profile as two separate data-maintenance jobs, and read the local SEO hub for the wider local-visibility context.
What should I update first?
Update the Apple place card for Apple-facing visibility and the Google Business Profile for Google-facing visibility.13
Use this order when a business has inaccurate local information:
- Check the Apple Business location name, address, coordinates, hours, phone, website, categories, and photos.1
- Review Apple showcases separately if the business is promoting a current offer, because showcases are tied to a location and time period.1
- Check the Google Business Profile for complete and accurate information, then verify the business's local results in Google Maps and Search.3
- Record the platform, search, and location when checking visibility so an Apple observation is not mistaken for a Google result.
If the concern is an AI assistant rather than Apple Maps or Google Search, where ChatGPT gets local business data treats that source question separately.
