Google Business Profile appeal preparation

Business: [business name]

Profile URL: [URL]

Business location: [country or region]

Appeal type: [suspended or disabled profile / rejected business-information edit / restricted media / other content]

Date checked: [YYYY-MM-DD]

Choose the route first

  • [ True / False / N/A ] I have identified whether this is a profile suspension or a content-related appeal.
  • [ True / False / N/A ] I have checked the business location because the route for some content restrictions differs between the UK and European Economic Area and other regions.1

Eligibility and real-world representation

  • [ True / False / N/A ] The business has a physical location customers can visit, or it travels to customers where they are.2
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The business makes in-person contact with customers during its stated hours.3
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The business name and other profile details represent the business as it is consistently represented and recognized in the real world.2
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The address or service area is accurate and precise.2
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The selected categories are the fewest needed to describe the business's overall core business.2
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The profile does not rely on a P.O. Box as the business location.3
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The profile does not use a rented mailing address where the business does not operate as its business location.2
  • [ True / False / N/A ] If the business lists an office at a coworking space, the office has clear signage, receives customers during business hours, and is staffed during business hours by the business's own staff.2
  • [ True / False / N/A ] If the business serves customers at their locations, the service-area setup follows Google's rules and the address is hidden from customers when required.2
  • [ True / False / N/A ] None of Google's listed ineligible examples applies: the business is not online-only, a lead-generation company, a rental or for-sale property, or an activity at a location it does not own or have authority to represent.3
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The profile follows Google's guidelines before I submit a profile appeal.4

Evidence and timing

  • [ True / False / N/A ] I understand that supporting evidence is optional and depends on the context of the appeal.1
  • [ True / False / N/A ] If I plan to add evidence, I have it ready before submitting the appeal.1
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The evidence I plan to submit is relevant, such as official business registration, a business license, tax certificates, or business utility bills.1
  • [ True / False / N/A ] The business name and address on each document match the Business Profile under appeal.1
  • [ True / False / N/A ] If I open the optional evidence form after submission, I will submit it within 60 minutes of submitting the appeal.1

Content state

  • [ True / False / N/A ] For a content appeal, the appealed content is still in a state Google can assess. It is not already live, deleted, or edited in a way that prevents Google from determining the verdict.3
  • [ True / False / N/A ] After submitting a Maps user-generated-content appeal, I will not edit or delete the appealed content.5

Profile boundary while the appeal is open

  • [ True / False / N/A ] I will not create a new Business Profile for the same business while this appeal is under review.4
  • [ True / False / N/A ] I am using the existing profile rather than creating a duplicate profile for the same business or location.42

After submission

  • [ True / False / N/A ] I know that Google says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to 5 business days.1
  • [ True / False / N/A ] I will not submit another appeal for the same issue before receiving a decision.1

Notes or documents to resolve before submission: [what is False, who will resolve it, and by when]

Which Google appeal route should I use?

Use the profile-suspension route for a suspended or disabled Business Profile. For other restrictions, use the route Google lists for the business's region and the type of content action.

Situation Route in the UK and EEA Route outside the UK and EEA
Suspended or disabled Business Profile Google Business Profile appeals tool Google Business Profile appeals tool
Rejected business-information edit, such as name, category, address, phone, or website Google Business Profile appeals tool Google's Contact us form
Restricted media, such as a post, photo, or video Google Business Profile appeals tool Google's Contact us form
Other content restriction Google's Contact us form Google's Contact us form

Google's regional guidance makes this distinction for profile and content restrictions. Do not treat every rejected edit or restricted item as a profile-suspension appeal.1

What should I correct before appealing a suspended profile?

Start with the displayed moderation reason and its policy link. Then check that the business is eligible and that its name, address or service area, and categories match the real-world business. Google's guidance says a business may have a profile when customers can visit a physical location or when the business travels to customers. It also says the business must make in-person contact during its stated hours.23

The eligibility examples in Google's policy overview are not an exhaustive list. They include lead-generation companies, online-only businesses, rental or for-sale properties, and activities at a location the business does not own or have authority to represent. Google also says P.O. Box addresses are not permitted.3

Google's published preparation steps focus on the current profile and matching evidence.41 Follow any additional instructions displayed for the specific appeal. For a Maps user-generated-content appeal, preserve the appealed content after submission instead of editing or deleting it.5

What evidence should I prepare for a Google Business Profile appeal?

Google says evidence is optional and depends on the appeal. Its examples include official business registration, a business license, tax certificates, and utility bills for the business. The business name and address on the evidence should match the profile under appeal.1

Prepare the documents before submitting the appeal. Google adds optional evidence through a linked form after the appeal is submitted. If you open the form, submit the evidence within 60 minutes of submitting the appeal. The 60-minute limit applies to the optional evidence form, not to the appeal form generally. Evidence left unsubmitted after that window will not be attached.1

What must I leave unchanged after a content appeal is submitted?

For a content appeal, keep the appealed content in the state Google needs to assess. Google says an appeal may be rejected when the verdict cannot be determined because the content is already live, deleted, or edited. For an appeal of Maps user-generated content, Google says editing or deleting violating content after submission cancels the appeal.35

This rule concerns the appealed content. Google's published profile-suspension preparation instead directs the owner to check the current profile against its guidelines and submit evidence that matches the profile.41

What should I do while a profile appeal is under review?

Keep the existing profile and wait for the decision. Google says not to create a new Business Profile for the same business while the appeal is under review. Google's general guidance also says there should be one profile per business, with limited exceptions for qualifying departments, individual practitioners, and separate service-business locations with separate service areas and staff.42

Google says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to 5 business days. Do not submit multiple appeals for the same issue before receiving a decision.1
