How do I add, edit, or remove services on my Google Business Profile?
A Google Business Profile can add, edit, and remove services through Edit services when Google makes the feature available for the business category. Sign in to the linked Google Account, open the profile, choose services, add or change the details, and save. Google reviews saved edits before updating them live.
How do I add a service to my Google Business Profile?
Open the Business Profile with its linked Google Account, select Edit services, choose the services to add, and select Save.
Google's services guidance gives this sequence:
- Open your Business Profile.
- Select Edit services.
- Select the services you want to add.
- Select Save.
Google's general editing guidance says that profile-management features can differ between Search and Maps and by your device's operating system. Some businesses might need to verify the profile before making changes. If Google asks for verification, complete that step with the Google Account linked to the profile. The Google Business Profile guide covers the profile's wider setup and access rules.
How do suggested and custom services differ?
Suggested services are tailored to the business type. A custom service is the route when the service you offer is not listed.
| Service option | Use it when | What Google says it does |
|---|---|---|
| Suggested service | The service you offer appears in the editor | Presents options tailored to the business type |
| Custom service | The service you offer is not listed | Lets you create and add your own service option |
Google gives plumbing examples such as “Install faucet” and “Repair toilet” for suggested options. If the business offers different types of services, Google also says to group them into categories and add details such as descriptions and prices.
To add a custom service, open Edit services, select Add more services, choose Add custom service when the service is not listed, and select Save.
The broader services and products answer explains when to use Edit services instead of the separate product or menu editors.
What details can I add to a service?
The services editor can add information such as a price and description to a selected service, and it can group different services into categories.
Select Edit services, choose a service, add the information that applies, and select Save. Use the price field for the price and the description field for the explanation. Google describes these as examples of information you can add, not as a closed list of every field the editor may show.
How do I edit or remove a service?
To edit a service, open Edit services, select the service, change its information, and select Save. To remove it, select Delete service, then save.
Google's documented edit flow keeps both actions in the same services editor. A removal is a change to the service list, so check the profile after saving if the service matters to customers.
Why can't I see Edit services on my Google Business Profile?
Google does not make the services feature available to every Business Profile. Google says features can differ between Search and Maps and by your device's operating system, while predefined services can differ by category and country and change over time.
Google's Help guidance says businesses in certain categories, such as service businesses, might be able to showcase offerings on the profile. Google's Business Profile API documentation separately says that not all businesses can add services, and that predefined services can differ by category and country and change over time.
First sign in with the Google Account linked to the profile and check the profile in both Google Search and Google Maps. If Google asks for verification, complete it before trying again. If the editor still does not appear, the Business Profile may not be eligible for the services feature. For API-managed locations, Google exposes service-list eligibility through canModifyServiceList.
Can I manage services through the Business Profile API?
The Business Profile API supports predefined and custom service items, but it does not support updating one service at a time.
Google's API documentation says to check canModifyServiceList for eligibility. Predefined services use StructuredServiceItem values with a serviceTypeId; custom services use FreeFormServiceItem values with a Label. An API update uses locations.patch with updateMask=serviceItems, so the service-list update must be handled as a list. Google's API guide says individual service updates are not supported.
What should I avoid in a custom service name?
Google says policy-violating custom services are automatically rejected. Avoid profanity, gibberish, personal information, prices, and phone numbers in custom service names.
Put the price in the service's price field rather than in its name. Keep the name a clear description of the service itself. These rules apply to custom service names; they do not mean that every service name will be approved simply because it is short.
