How do I read my Google Business Profile performance metrics?

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder

Google Business Profile performance metrics show how people find and act on a verified profile in Google Search and Google Maps. Views are four daily Search-or-Maps and desktop-or-mobile impression slices, Searches are monthly keyword data, and action metrics are clicks or requests such as calls, website clicks, directions, bookings, and menus. Sign in to the associated Google Account, choose a date range, and read only the metrics that apply to the business.

Where do I find my Google Business Profile performance report?

On Google Search, open the Business Profile, select Performance, choose a time period at the top, and select Apply. In the Google Maps app, open the app, tap Business at the bottom right, tap See more next to Performance, choose a time period, and tap Apply. Google Business Profile Help says performance data is available only for verified profiles and requires the Google Account associated with the profile. The Google Business Profile hub covers the profile itself.

To download a spreadsheet, open Business Profile Manager on a computer. Select the profiles with the checkboxes, select Actions, choose Insights, select the timeframe, and choose Download Report. Google says the download can include several profiles in one spreadsheet for location comparison.

What does Google Business Profile performance data include?

Google's Business Profile Help says performance data includes views, searches, and actions from organic search results and Google Ads. Select the profile and date range before comparing periods. Only metrics that apply to the business appear, so two profiles may show different cards.

What does Views mean in Google Business Profile?

Views measures Business Profile impressions on Google Search and Google Maps. Google's Performance API splits the daily view data into four separate slices: each platform, Search or Maps, crossed with each device group, desktop or mobile. Multiple impressions by one unique user within one day count as one impression in each slice.

Business Profile label Performance API name What Google defines it as
Views BUSINESS_IMPRESSIONS_DESKTOP_MAPS Business impressions on Google Maps from desktop devices.
Views BUSINESS_IMPRESSIONS_DESKTOP_SEARCH Business impressions on Google Search from desktop devices.
Views BUSINESS_IMPRESSIONS_MOBILE_MAPS Business impressions on Google Maps from mobile devices.
Views BUSINESS_IMPRESSIONS_MOBILE_SEARCH Business impressions on Google Search from mobile devices.

The Google Business Profile Performance API documentation explains how these daily slices differ from the owner-facing report. Views measure profile impressions, not the position where the profile appeared. Tracking local search rankings covers that separate question.

What does Searches mean in Google Business Profile?

Searches reports the terms people used to find the business. Google Business Profile Help says a query appears when the Business Profile appears for that search, and the business cannot directly manage the queries. Google says the Searches metric updates at the start of each month and may take up to five days to appear.

The Performance API maps this label to ListSearchKeywordImpressionsMonthly. Google for Developers documents it as a monthly keyword method for Search and Maps, not a daily metric. For each requested month, a keyword result is either the monthly sum of unique users who used that keyword or a threshold showing that the actual value is below the threshold. A threshold is not an exact count.

What do Interactions, calls, clicks, and other actions count?

Google Business Profile Help defines Interactions as a summary of all total interactions. It is a dashboard summary label, not one named DailyMetric action enum. Google's DailyMetric reference gives the API names and definitions for the individual actions:

Performance label Performance API name What Google counts
Interactions No single DailyMetric enum A summary of all total interactions.
Calls CALL_CLICKS Clicks on the Business Profile call button. This counts clicks, not completed phone calls. Google says a phone number must be added to track it.
Website clicks WEBSITE_CLICKS Clicks on the Business Profile website link.
Directions BUSINESS_DIRECTION_REQUESTS Requests for directions to the business location. Google's counting rule accounts for multiple taps, cancelled requests, and spam.
Bookings BUSINESS_BOOKINGS Bookings made from the Business Profile through Reserve with Google. Google says the booking must be managed through a booking provider for this metric to have data.
Menus BUSINESS_FOOD_MENU_CLICKS Clicks to view or interact with menu content. Multiple clicks by one unique user in one day count as one. Menu content includes menu photos, menu links, and structured menu data.
Food orders BUSINESS_FOOD_ORDERS Food orders received from the Business Profile. Google marks this API item deprecated.

Google says only metrics that apply to the business appear. Treat BUSINESS_FOOD_ORDERS as a deprecated API entry, not as a current action card unless Google publishes a current product statement.

Do Google Business Profile performance metrics show my local ranking?

Activity is not ranking. Performance reporting describes profile activity, such as views, search terms, and actions. Google's local-ranking guidance says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity, and businesses cannot request or pay for a better local ranking. Use a separate local check when the question is where the profile appears for a query and place.

Tracking local search rankings covers that measurement separately from the profile's own performance report.

Can Google Analytics show Google Business Profile performance metrics?

Google Analytics Help says linked Google Business Profile reports retain six months of profile metrics. If several profiles are linked, Analytics sums the metrics across them and cannot filter or segment the linked metrics to one profile. A longer Analytics date range does not extend the six-month history.

Google Analytics shows every available Google Business Profile metric regardless of business type. The Business Profile dashboard hides metrics that are not relevant to the business. Google Analytics Help currently lists Interactions, Website clicks, Calls, Directions, Messages, Bookings, and Menus in the linked report. That list is not evidence that Business Profile chat is live: Google's separate chat-status help page says Business Profile chat and call history ended on July 31, 2024, and says BUSINESS_CONVERSATIONS is no longer available in the Performance API.

Use Google Analytics for an aggregate view across linked profiles. Use the Business Profile performance report when you need the selected profile and its date range.

Common questions

Why are my Google Business Profile Views lower than another view count?
The Performance API counts repeated impressions by one unique user within one day as one impression in each Search-or-Maps and device slice. Compare the same date range and the same set of slices before treating two Views numbers as equivalent.
Why did my Google Business Profile Directions number drop?
Google's Performance guidance says its unique-request counting accounts for multiple taps, cancelled direction requests, and spam. A lower Directions number can therefore reflect the counting rule as well as a change in demand. Google defines the API metric as `BUSINESS_DIRECTION_REQUESTS`.
Why does Google Business Profile Calls show nothing?
Calls records clicks on the call button, not completed calls. Google says to add a phone number to track `CALL_CLICKS`. Check the phone number on the profile before interpreting a blank Calls card.
Why are Views and Searches missing from Google Analytics?
Google Analytics Help lists Interactions, Website clicks, Calls, Directions, Messages, Bookings, and Menus for the linked Business Profile report. Views and Searches are not in that list. Use the Business Profile performance report for Views and Searches, and use Analytics for the aggregate linked-profile report.
Why does the Performance API still list BUSINESS_CONVERSATIONS?
Google's current `DailyMetric` reference still displays `BUSINESS_CONVERSATIONS` as message conversations received on a Business Profile. Google's chat-status help page says chat and call history ended on July 31, 2024, and says the metric is no longer available in the Performance API. Treat the two pages as a documentation-status conflict. Do not present `BUSINESS_CONVERSATIONS` as a live metric or turn its absence into a zero.
