cleaning services
How should a cleaning service set up its Google Business Profile?
A cleaning service should choose the most specific current category for its main work, use a service-area profile when customers are not served at its base, name only the areas it actually serves, list the cleaning work it provides, and show accurate evidence of that work.1,2,3,4
The general Google Business Profile guide covers the shared setup. This cleaning-services cut joins the decisions that change by trade: the current category picker, storefront versus service-area or hybrid status, dispatch territory, cleaning services, and customer-visible profile evidence. The general service-area rules and local SEO guidance remain the standing answers for their wider questions.
| Profile decision | Cleaning-service setup | What a customer should see |
|---|---|---|
| Primary category | In the current US English picker, choose the specific available category that best describes the cleaning business's main activity. If it is unavailable, choose a general available category. Do not create a category or add one for every cleaning service.1 | A category that identifies what the business is. |
| Profile model | Use service-area status when customers are not served at the business address, and remove the address. Use hybrid status only when customers are served at the address and the business also visits customers.2 | A real service area, or a real customer-serving address plus the service area. |
| Service area | Enter cities, postal codes, or other named areas that the cleaning business actually serves. Use no more than 20, never a radius, and keep the overall area to about 2 hours of driving time from the base.2 | Concrete coverage customers can check before they contact the business. |
| Services | Add the cleaning work the business really provides. Use Google's current suggested services where available, then add truthful custom services, groups, descriptions, and prices in their dedicated fields.3,5 | A current Services menu that explains the work without putting prices or phone numbers in custom service names. |
| Customer-visible evidence | Claim and verify the profile. Keep the name, hours, phone, website, service area, description, and service photos or videos accurate. Keep the description to 750 characters, with no URLs, HTML, promotions, or prices.4 | Enough information to understand what the business offers, where it works, when it operates, and what its work looks like. |
Which Google Business Profile category should a cleaning service choose?
Choose the most specific category currently offered that describes the cleaning business's main activity; use a general available category only when the specific one is absent, and never create a custom category.1
Google's public guidance does not publish a permanent US English list of cleaning-specific labels. The label shown in the profile's current picker is the one to check at setup. Google's category-list reference also describes region and language parameters, paginated results, and name-prefix search, so an older label or a label from another market is not a safe substitute.6
Use additional categories sparingly. They can describe genuine departments or services, but Google says not to select a category for every product or service. Put the cleaning work itself in Services, not into a catalogue of categories.1,3
Should a cleaning service use a storefront, service-area, or hybrid profile?
A cleaning service that travels to customers and does not serve them at its base should use a service-area profile and remove its address; a cleaning service that serves customers at a real address and also travels can use a hybrid profile.2
Google names cleaning services as an example of a service-area business. A business without permanent on-site signage is not eligible as a storefront under this guidance. Keep one profile for the whole area served instead of creating a profile for every suburb or dispatch route.2
Use the customer-serving location as the dividing line:
- If customers do not receive cleaning service at the listed address, remove the address and set named service areas.
- If customers do receive service at a real customer-serving address and the team also travels, keep the real address and add the service area.
- If the business has no permanent on-site signage, do not present it as a storefront.
How many service areas can a cleaning service list?
A cleaning service can list up to 20 named service areas, not a radius, and its overall boundary should stay at about 2 hours of driving time from its base.2
Before saving the profile, compare every selected area with the actual dispatch territory:
- Use cities, postal codes, or another named area type.
- Remove places the business does not serve.
- Do not replace named areas with a mile-radius setting.
- Allow up to 48 hours for approved edits to appear on Google Search and Maps.
Treat the 2-hour figure as a driving-time check against the cleaning service's actual territory, not as a mile calculation.
What services should a cleaning company add to its profile?
Add only cleaning services the business actually provides, using Google's current suggestions where available and truthful custom services where they are needed.3,5
The Services editor can group different types of work and can provide descriptions and prices in the fields Google supplies. Google says a matching local search may highlight a service, while the Google Maps app can show the full menu under Services.3
Keep custom service names descriptive and clean. Google says custom names can be rejected when they contain profanity, gibberish, personal information, prices, or phone numbers. The API documentation also says predefined services vary by category and country and can change, so check the current options for the selected category rather than copying a permanent cleaning-service list.3,5
What evidence should a cleaning service show on its profile?
A cleaning service should show a claimed and verified profile with accurate contact details, hours, service areas, service entries, a factual description, and photos or videos of its real work.4
Google says a business must be added or claimed and then verified to show on Search, Maps, and other Google services. After verification, keep the editable fields current. Google lists photos or videos of storefronts, products, and services as profile media, so a service-area cleaner should use media that represents the cleaning work it provides.4
Use the description for business details, not a promotion. Google limits it to 750 characters and says to avoid URLs, HTML, prices, and sales copy.4
What should a cleaning service check before saving?
Run this trade-specific check after the profile is configured:
| Check | The profile should show |
|---|---|
| Category | The current available label that best describes the main cleaning activity, with only relevant additional categories. |
| Business model | Service-area status when customers are not served at the base, or hybrid status when they are served at a real customer-serving address and the team also travels. |
| Service area | Named areas that match the actual dispatch territory, with no radius and no more than 20 entries. |
| Services | Cleaning work the business really provides, separated from the category and free of prohibited material in custom service names. |
| Customer evidence | Accurate contact details, hours, description, service area, verification, and real service-work imagery. |
For a cleaning service, the profile should make one answer easy to verify: what the business does, where it will go, and what a customer can expect to find when they open the listing.
