How should a roofing company set up its Google Business Profile?
A roofing company should choose its profile model from where customers receive roofing work, name only the places its crews serve, keep the Services menu tied to real offerings, and make its hours and public evidence match the operation.1,2,3,4
The general service-area answer covers Google's shared address and service-area rules. This page applies those rules to three roofing situations: a crew that travels to customers, a real location that receives customers, and a business that does both. The service-area setup guide covers the common editing path; the table below is the roofer-specific maintenance check.
Which Google Business Profile model fits a roofing company?
Start with where customers receive the roofing service, not with where the company stores vehicles or receives mail. Google allows profiles for businesses with a customer-facing base or crews that travel to jobs. A business that does both can show its storefront address and designate a service area.1
| Roofing business reality | Profile model | What to enter or verify |
|---|---|---|
| Crews travel to homes or job sites, and customers are not served at the base | Service-area business | Hide the non-customer-facing address and name the places the crews actually serve. Keep one profile for the whole area served.1,2,5 |
| Customers visit a real office or showroom, and the company does not travel for the listed work | Storefront | Show the precise customer-facing address. Keep the location staffed, open to customers during the stated hours, and marked with permanent fixed signage.1 |
| Customers visit a real office or showroom, and crews also travel to roofing jobs | Hybrid business | Show the real address and add the named service area. The location must still receive customers and be staffed during its stated hours.1,2 |
| The business has a mailing address but does not receive customers there | Service-area business | Do not turn a mailbox, home address, or virtual office into a storefront. Use the service-area model that reflects where customers actually receive the work.1,5 |
The address decision is a customer-access decision. A postal address alone does not make a roofing operation an eligible storefront.1,5
How should a roofing company choose its service areas?
A roofing company can list up to 20 named service areas, not a radius, and should keep its overall area generally within about two hours of driving time from its base.2
Use the service-area field as a record of the current roofing dispatch territory:
- Select cities, postal codes, or another named area type where the crews accept the advertised roofing work.
- Remove a place when the company no longer sends crews there or cannot take the represented work.
- Compare the outermost selected area with realistic driving time from the business base. Google notes that some businesses may need a wider territory, so the two-hour statement is not a mile-radius rule.2
- Keep one profile for the whole area served. Do not create extra profiles just to cover additional towns.2
- Check the public profile after saving. Google says an approved service-area edit may take up to 48 hours to appear.2
The selected areas should describe where a roofing crew will actually take the work, not every place where someone can submit a lead.
What belongs in a roofer's category, service area, and Services menu?
Keep the business identity, geography, and roofing work in their separate Google fields: choose the most specific current category that represents the core business, use Service area for named coverage, and use Services for work the company actually offers.1,2,3,6
Use the category picker to select a specific category from the list that best describes the roofing business. Do not replace the category with a list of roofing jobs. Google's category-selection guide covers the general decision; use only options the picker shows.6
| Profile field | Roofer-specific use | What a customer or editor should verify |
|---|---|---|
| Category | The current available option that best describes what the roofing business is overall | The selected option represents the core business. It is not a keyword list or a substitute for Services.1,6 |
| Service area | Named places covered by the roofing crew's current dispatch territory | Each place is served now, the list uses named areas rather than a radius, and the list does not exceed 20 areas.2 |
| Services | Roofing work the company genuinely offers | Use Google's suggested options where available or add truthful custom services. Group different types of work when useful, and put descriptions or prices in their dedicated fields.3 |
| Custom service name | A clear name for the actual service | Do not put prices, phone numbers, personal information, gibberish, or profanity in the custom service name.3 |
The Services editor is available only to businesses in certain categories, so do not promise that every roofing profile will show identical suggestions. Open the customer-facing profile and check that each saved service still matches the company's current offering.3
Which hours should a roofing company use for normal, storm, and seasonal availability?
Use regular hours for the normal customer-facing week, Special hours for short exceptions, More hours for a distinct service schedule, and Temporarily closed for a longer, off-season, or indefinite closure.4,7,8
| Roofing situation | Google field or status | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Customers can normally reach or visit the business during a recurring weekly schedule | Regular hours | Enter the current normal week. If the day has a break, use separate entries for the two open periods.4 |
| A holiday, storm response, or other short-lived change alters availability | Special hours | Enter the actual exception. Do not use an emergency label that the source does not define as an hours type.4,7 |
| A distinct roofing service has a different schedule | More hours | Use the service-specific hours only when they are different from the main schedule. Google says these should generally be a subset of the primary hours.4,9 |
| The company is closed for a longer period, during an off-season, or with no known reopening date | Temporarily closed | Restore regular customer-facing hours when the business reopens.7,8 |
Google's current help pages state different boundaries at exactly seven days. How to set Special hours says Special hours cover up to 6 consecutive days and Temporarily closed starts at 7 or more. Mark your business as closed says Special hours cover 7 days or less and Temporarily closed starts after 7 days.7,8 For a short storm response, use Special hours; for a longer, off-season, or indefinite closure, use Temporarily closed, and read the current Google instruction when the closure is exactly seven days.
Do not turn a 24-hour emergency phone line into 24-hour business hours unless the business is actually open under Google's hours rules. The profile's hours should tell customers when the business is available, not only when a voicemail or dispatcher can receive a call.1,4
What should a roofing company verify on the public profile?
A roofer's maintenance pass should compare the customer-facing profile with observable business facts: a real staffed and signed location when an address is shown, current named service areas, genuine Services entries, and hours that match normal and exceptional availability.1,2,3,4
| Check | Pass condition | Evidence a customer or editor can verify |
|---|---|---|
| Profile model | The address and service area reflect where customers receive roofing work | Customer access at the address, permanent signage, staff presence, and the real dispatch territory.1,2,5 |
| Service territory | Every named area is a place the crew serves now | Current dispatch coverage and the public service-area field. |
| Services menu | Each service describes work the company currently offers | The saved Services menu, descriptions, and the company's current offering.3 |
| Hours | Regular, special, service-specific, and closure settings match actual availability | The public profile, holiday or storm schedule, and reopening plan.4,7,8 |
| Category and business details | The category identifies the business overall and the other fields carry their own information | The current category picker, profile fields, and public listing.1,6 |
Review the public listing after each material change. A profile that displays a real location, an accurate service territory, current roofing services, and current hours gives customers facts they can check before contacting the company.
