Hybrid profile

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder3 min read

A hybrid profile is Maps Agent’s shorthand for a Google “hybrid business”: it serves customers at its address and also visits or delivers to them. It needs permanent on-site signage; without it, Google says to use a service-area business. Google uses “hybrid service-area business,” not “hybrid profile.”123

Google's service-area guidance uses a dine-in restaurant that also delivers food as its direct example. Google's representation guidelines use an auto repair shop with a garage and roadside service as the operational example. Both businesses have a place customers can use and a service area for work that happens away from it.12

Open the profile's Edit profile > Location settings. A hybrid business keeps its storefront address shown and enters its Service area there as well. Customers can then see the place to visit and the areas where the business travels or delivers. Google's guidance says the location should be staffed by the business team and able to receive customers during its stated hours.12

On a hybrid profile, hours are when staff are at the storefront to receive customers.12 Google allows up to 20 named service areas, no radius, and says the overall boundary should stay within about two hours' driving time from the business base, although a larger area may suit some businesses; the service-area guide covers the edit path and the rest of the rules.12

Your situation Hybrid? What to set
Dine-in restaurant that also delivers food Yes Show the storefront address and add the service area.
Auto repair shop with a garage and roadside service Yes Show the storefront address and add the service area. Keep the location staffed and able to receive customers during stated hours.
Tailor who does fittings in the shop and at customers' homes Yes Show the storefront address and add the service area.
Photographer with a studio who also shoots on location Yes Show the storefront address and add the service area.
Office that sees clients in person and also consults online No Show the business address if customers visit there, but do not add a service area. A service area is for going to or delivering to the customer's location.
Shop with no permanent signage that also visits customers No Use the service-area business model. Google requires permanent on-site signage for a storefront.
Home-based business that does not receive customers at home No Use the service-area business model. Remove the public address and enter the service area. Google says address hiding is for service-area businesses only.4
Virtual office or coworking desk without clear signage, customer access, or business staff No Do not use the location as a storefront. Google says a virtual office is ineligible, and a coworking office needs clear signage, customer reception, and staffing during business hours.2
Age-restricted business without a storefront No Keep a storefront. Google does not permit an age-restricted business as a service-area business without one.12

The Google Business Profile hub covers the wider profile. The service-area answer covers the service-area limits and the full edit path.
