Google Business Profile holiday hours check
Choose the right hours field
- The date is a holiday or another brief temporary change to the normal schedule.
- If the business will be closed for up to 6 consecutive days, I will mark the date closed with Special hours. For a closure of 7 or more consecutive days, or an unknown period, I will use Temporarily closed instead of relying only on Special hours.
- I am not using More hours for a holiday closure or a change to the main schedule.
- I am using More hours only for a service-specific time, such as delivery, takeout, drive-through, or pickup.
- The regular business hours are set before I add any More hours type.
- Each More hours type is configured separately, and I checked whether each service window is a subset of the primary hours, as Google generally recommends.
Prepare the profile
- The main business hours are set to Open with main hours.
- I have the business's actual opening and closing times for each holiday date.
- I have checked Google's current holiday list for dates that apply to the business.
- I have checked whether any listed holiday row is limited to my state.
Enter each date
- I opened the verified Google Business Profile.
- I selected Edit profile → Hours → Business hours → Special hours → Edit.
- For each suggested date that applies, including dates when the regular schedule is unchanged, I selected Review, confirmed the actual open and closed times, or marked the business closed.
- For a date that is not suggested, I selected Add a date and entered the date and schedule.
- For more than one opening period on the same date, I selected More → Add hours +.
- No special-hours set exceeds 24 hours.
- If a special-hours set runs from before midnight on one day and past noon on the next, I split it across two date entries, ending the first date at 00:00 and starting the next at 00:00. I will re-enter any next-day regular hours I want to keep.
- I selected Save.
Correct a wrong entry
- If the business is closed on the wrong entry's date, I selected Delete next to the date.
- If the business is open on the wrong entry's date, I selected More → Remove day next to the hours.

Verify the public result
- I checked the saved date in the Hours tab of Business information or under Special hours in Edit profile.
- I searched for the business on Google Search and checked the public profile.
- I opened the business on Google Maps and checked the public profile there too.
- If the saved hours are not public yet, I checked the edit status before changing the entry again.
Which Google hours setting should I use for a holiday?
Use Special hours when the business's main schedule changes briefly, such as for a holiday. Use More hours for a separate service schedule, such as delivery, takeout, drive-through, or pickup. Google says to set regular hours first, configure each More hours type separately, and generally keep service hours within the primary hours.14
| Situation | Use | Do not use |
|---|---|---|
| The business opens or closes at a different time for a short period | Special hours | More hours |
| The business is closed for up to 6 consecutive days | Special hours with the date marked closed | |
| The business is closed for 7 or more consecutive days | Temporarily closed | Special hours alone |
| The closure period is unknown | Temporarily closed | Special hours alone |
| Delivery, takeout, drive-through, or pickup has its own schedule | More hours | Special hours as a substitute for the service schedule |
What not to do
- Do not use More hours for a holiday exception. Use it only for an eligible service-specific schedule.
- Do not select Open with no main hours when you need Special hours to appear. Choose Open with main hours.
- Do not treat a saved edit as live until the public profile shows the date; if it is not public yet, check the edit status before changing the entry again.
How do I enter a holiday date in the profile?
Open the Business Profile, select Edit profile, then Hours, Business hours, Special hours, and Edit. Select Review for Google's suggested date or select Add a date for a custom date. Enter the open and closed times, mark the business closed when that is the actual schedule, and select Save. For two opening periods on one date, select More → Add hours +.1
Google's current U.S. holiday page lists the named holidays in the checklist for the remainder of 2026 and New Year's Day 2027. Some rows apply only to named states, so check the row's scope before entering it. Google recommends setting special hours in advance, and a holiday warning may appear on the profile.3
Why do holiday hours save but not show?
First check that the main business hours are set to Open with main hours. Google says Special hours show on a Business Profile only when the business has main hours set to Open with main hours.1
Next, check the saved entry under the Hours tab of Business information or under Special hours in Edit profile. Then check the public profile on both Google Search and Google Maps. Google says verified profiles can be edited on either surface, the hours are used on both, and edits are reviewed before they go live. If the saved entry is not public yet, check its edit status before replacing it.25
