Google Business Profile
A Google Business Profile is the free listing Google hosts for a business, through which the owner controls how the business appears across Maps and Search, from hours, location or service area, category and photos to replies to customers, without paying anything for the listing itself.
Google's own wording is worth keeping: the profile is managed "at no charge", and it exists for storefronts and for businesses that travel to the customer alike.1 That second half is the part most often missed, because a business without a shopfront assumes the listing is not for it.
Two boundaries the name blurs. The listing is not the account used to administer it, and it is not advertising: Google sells ad placement separately and states that a better local ranking cannot be requested or bought.2
