How do I update products or services on a Google Business Profile for an apartment community?

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder

For an apartment community, first separate the property from its leasing office: Google lists rental or for-sale properties, including vacant apartments, as ineligible for a Business Profile, while sales or leasing offices are eligible for verification. After the office has a claimed and verified profile, use Edit profile for profile information, Edit services only when Google shows the feature, and Edit products only for physical goods sold by a qualifying local store. Use a relevant attribute for an amenity when Google offers one.

Is an apartment community eligible for a Google Business Profile?

A vacant apartment or rental property is not the eligible entity in Google's examples, but a sales or leasing office is eligible for verification.

Google's Business eligibility and ownership guidelines list “rental or for-sale properties such as vacation homes, model homes, or vacant apartments” as ineligible examples, then state that “sales or leasing offices, however, are eligible for verification.”1 That distinction is about what the profile represents: the leasing office can be the business, while the apartments themselves are the property.

What the profile represents or what you want to show Use this path What the rule means
Vacant apartments, rental units, model homes, or property for sale itself Do not represent the property as the Business Profile Google lists rental or for-sale properties as ineligible examples, while it separately identifies sales and leasing offices as eligible for verification.
An on-site sales or leasing office Claim or verify the office, then use Edit profile The office is the eligible business entity. Edit it with the Google Account linked to the profile.
An office that sees Edit services Use Edit services for actual office offerings Google says businesses in certain categories might have the services editor. Its availability is not universal.
A pool, fitness room, parking area, Wi-Fi, or another property feature Use a relevant attribute when Google offers one Attributes describe business characteristics and amenities. Available attributes vary with the location's properties, such as its category.
Physical goods sold by a genuine local store Use Edit products or the separate Local Inventory path when eligible Google's Product Editor is for a local store that sells physical goods. Automatic in-store products use a retail and inventory setup.
Apartment availability, rent amounts, or promotional claims Do not turn them into product entries The documented Product Editor scope is retail goods, not an apartment-rental catalogue. Keep claims accurate and tied to the eligible office.

Use the Google Business Profile hub for the wider profile decisions. For this question, confirm the entity before choosing any editor.

How do I update an eligible apartment leasing office profile?

Open the claimed and verified leasing-office profile with its linked Google Account, choose Edit profile, make the change, and save it.

Google's Edit your Business Profile guidance says the account used for editing must be linked to the profile and that features can differ between Google Search, Google Maps, and device operating systems.2 Use the surface that shows the profile:

  1. Sign in to the Google Account linked to the leasing-office profile.
  2. On Google Search, open the Business Profile, select Edit profile, change the relevant field, and select Save.
  3. In the Google Maps app, open Business, select Edit profile, change the relevant field, and tap Save.
  4. Check the profile after Google reviews the change before treating the edit as live.

The broader answer about publishing products and services on a Google Business Profile covers the shared editor paths. The answer about editing and removing a Google Business Profile covers access and other profile fields.

Does every leasing office have Edit services?

No. Use Edit services only when Google presents it for the leasing-office profile, because Google says businesses in certain categories might have the services editor.

Google's Manage your services on your Business Profile guidance says a service may be highlighted when a local customer searches for that offering, and the Google Maps app can show the full list under Services.3 Where the editor appears:

  1. Open the Business Profile and select Edit services.
  2. Select Google's suggested services, or choose Add more services and Add custom service for an offering that is not listed.
  3. Group services into categories, add the description and price fields that apply, and select Save.

Use entries for services the office actually provides. Google says custom service names can be rejected automatically when they contain profanity, gibberish, personal information, prices, or phone numbers. Put a price in the editor's price field instead of adding it to the service name.3 The Google Business Profile services editor workflow covers the maintenance details.

Should I use Edit products for apartment units or amenities?

No. Use Edit products for physical goods sold by a local store, not as a catalogue for rental units, rent, or apartment amenities.

Google's About product editor guidance says, “If you have a local store which sells physical goods, the product editor is suitable for you.” It describes manual product entries for products without barcodes and says items added through the editor appear in Business Profiles on Google Search.4 That documented scope does not make apartment units, rent amounts, or property features retail inventory.

For amenities, use a relevant factual attribute when Google offers one. Google describes attributes as additional characteristics of a location, including accessibility or amenities, and says the available attributes can vary with properties such as category.5 Do not force an amenity into Edit products merely because the profile does not offer the attribute you want.

What is the limited retail-product path for an apartment office?

A leasing operation can use a product path only when it also operates a qualifying local store that sells physical goods; ordinary apartment leasing is not that retail case.

For a genuine local store, Google's Product Editor guidance gives this manual path: sign in to the profile's linked account, open the Business Profile in Google Search, select Edit products, complete the form, and select Publish.4

Google separately describes automatic in-store products for a retail business in an eligible country: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, or Ireland. That path requires connecting the store's point-of-sale system to Google's Local Inventory app.2 Treat this as a separate retail setup. The existence of a leasing-office profile does not by itself make apartment listings or amenities eligible for product inventory.

What should I do when Edit services is missing?

Keep the profile edit and the services editor separate, and do not substitute Edit products just because Edit services is absent.

Google documents the services editor as a feature that businesses in certain categories might have, while its general editing guidance says features can differ by surface and device.23 Confirm that the linked Google Account is managing the profile, check the profile in both Google Search and Google Maps when practical, and use the editor Google actually presents. If Edit services remains unavailable, do not misclassify a service, apartment unit, rent amount, or amenity as a physical product.

Common questions

Does verifying a leasing office make every editor available?
No. Verification and editor availability are separate. Google says the services editor might be available only for businesses in certain categories, and its Product Editor guidance is for local stores that sell physical goods.
Can I list apartment amenities as products?
No. Use a relevant Google attribute when one is available for the location. Do not present a pool, parking area, fitness room, Wi-Fi, or another property feature as retail inventory.
Can an apartment leasing office use Edit menu?
Google's editing guidance says the menu editor is for food-and-drink businesses, so an apartment leasing office should not use Edit menu for rental units, rent, or amenities.
