How should a towing company describe 24-hour service on Google?
A towing company should put genuine customer-facing availability in its hours, describe emergency towing accurately, choose a service-area or hybrid profile based on where customers are served, and list only the services and attributes it actually offers. “24-hour” describes availability, not a guaranteed response time.1
The Google Business Profile editing guide is the menu-level entry point for saving changes. For the towing-specific field decisions, use the guidance on choosing categories, service-area businesses, and owner-controlled attributes. Sign in to the Google Account linked to the verified profile.
Where should a towing company put “open 24 hours”?
Google says to enter regular customer-facing hours, and its 24-hour coffee-shop example puts Open 24 hours in the Hours field rather than the business name. A towing company should use that field only when its actual operation is eligible to provide hours and can provide the listed service during those hours.1
Google also says businesses with varied hours or appointment-only operations should not provide regular hours, and its examples include transportation services. A towing company should follow that exception when it applies rather than treating 24-hour availability as a default. For a seasonal operation, set regular hours for the open season, use special hours for holidays, temporary closures, or other exceptional days, and mark the profile temporarily closed during the off-season when appropriate.1
“24-hour” is an availability statement, not a response-time promise. Describe only the actual services and availability, and make no pickup or arrival promise unless the business can substantiate it.1
Should “24-hour towing” be in the business name?
No. Keep the name field to the real-world business name used consistently with customers. Google's naming examples remove business-hours information such as Open 24 hours from the name and place it in the appropriate profile field instead.1
Use the hours field for availability, the description for a useful explanation of emergency towing, and Services for work the company actually performs. Do not turn a service phrase or a time claim into a made-up category.1,2
What should the description say about emergency towing?
Write a short description that tells a customer what the company really does, where it works, and when it is available. For example, use this as a fill-in pattern, then replace every bracket with a verified fact:
24-hour towing and roadside assistance for customers in [named service areas], including [services actually offered].
The description should be upfront, relevant, and useful. Do not use it for a promotion, price, sales claim, or link. Do not replace a missing operating fact with a phrase such as “fastest response” or a fixed arrival time. Describe the company's actual emergency service and do not imply a response standard unless the business can substantiate it.1
Should the profile show an address or a service area?
Choose the profile model from where customers receive towing service, not from where the trucks are parked.
| Towing operation | Profile model | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Trucks travel to customers, and customers are not served at the base | Service-area business | Remove the address from the profile and name the actual cities, postal codes, or other areas served. |
| Customers can be served at a real location, and trucks also travel to jobs | Hybrid business | Keep the customer-facing address, set staff-availability hours, and add the genuine service area. |
For a service-area profile, use Edit profile → Location → Service area → Edit, then choose named areas that match the dispatch territory. Google allows up to 20 service areas, says a radius cannot be used, and says approved edits may take up to 48 hours to appear. The overall area should usually stay within about two hours of driving time from the base unless a larger area is appropriate for that business.3
Do not show a storefront address merely because a towing company has a storage yard. The address and hybrid model depend on whether customers are served there. Likewise, do not name a city just because a call was received from it; retain an area only when the company can actually provide the represented service.3
Which Google category should a towing company use?
Choose the specific primary category in Google's current category picker that best describes the towing business. Select a category from Google's list, and if the specific option is unavailable, choose a more general category that still describes the business. Do not invent a category label.2
Google does not allow a custom category. Keep additional categories limited to genuine departments or special services, and do not add one category for every kind of tow, roadside task, or phrase a customer might search.2
Which services and attributes should appear?
Use the Services editor for actual offerings, not for a list of keywords. Google provides suggested services and permits custom services, categories, descriptions, and prices. A custom service name should not contain profanity, gibberish, personal information, a price, or a phone number.4
Review the following surfaces together:
| Profile surface | Towing-specific check |
|---|---|
| Hours | The listed availability matches the hours when the business can actually accept and provide towing work.1 |
| Description | Emergency towing and roadside work are described plainly, without an unsupported response-time claim.1 |
| Services | Each towing or roadside service is offered by the business and named without prohibited custom-service details.4 |
| Attributes | Only attributes that are available and true for this location, country, and business category are selected.5 |
| Phone | The number connects to the individual business, remains under its direct control, and does not redirect callers to another business or premium number.1 |
Attributes may be owner-editable or populated from customer input. Their availability and names can vary by location, country, and category. Google says an attribute review usually takes about 10 minutes but can sometimes take up to 30 days, so check the saved profile before relying on an attribute in a customer-facing claim.5
How does Local Services Ads setup differ from the Business Profile?
Local Services Ads use a separate settings surface. In that product, a towing advertiser chooses job types and geographic service areas such as cities, counties, or neighborhoods through Profile & budget → Service areas. Those ad settings do not replace the Business Profile's hours, address model, category, Services, or attributes.6
Keep the two records aligned. A service area selected for an ad should still describe a place the company serves, but an ad setting is not evidence that the Business Profile may claim a storefront, 24-hour customer-facing hours, or a response-time guarantee.3,6
What should a towing company check before publishing?
- Confirm that the hours represent customer-facing availability, not merely an internal on-call rotation.
- Keep Open 24 hours out of the business name and in the hours field only when it is accurate.1
- Replace the description brackets with verified service areas and services, then remove any response-time promise the records cannot support.1
- Select service-area or hybrid status from where customers are actually served, and review every named area against dispatch coverage.3
- Select the specific primary category from Google's current picker that best describes the business; if the specific option is unavailable, choose a general category instead of inventing a label.2
- Recheck Services, attributes, and the direct business phone before saving. Treat the final profile as a record of what the towing company can provide, not as a collection of search phrases.1,4,5
