Google's Business Profile API documents the complete resource name in Location.name as locations/{locationId}. This glossary uses “location ID” for the {locationId} segment, while keeping it distinct from the complete resource name. In a separate Google Ads API workflow, Google describes Business Profile location IDs used in listing_id_filters as numeric uint64 values; that Ads-specific representation does not change the Business Profile API schema.1,2 The Google Business Profile API entry covers the wider API family, while the answer about Business Profile location IDs covers the retrieval workflow.
These nearby terms refer to different systems or responsibilities:
| Term | What it identifies or represents | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Business Profile location ID | The {locationId} segment in a Business Profile API resource name | The complete resource name, which is locations/{locationId} in Location.name1 |
| Resource name | The complete locations/{locationId} value used to identify the API location resource | A Place ID or a store code1 |
| Place ID | A textual identifier for a place in Google's Places database and on Google Maps | A Business Profile API resource name; in a Business Profile resource, metadata.placeId is output-only and is populated when the location appears on Google Maps1,3 |
| Google Business Profile store code | An optional external identifier for the account holder's records, unique within that account | The Location.name resource name or a globally unique identifier1,4 |
| Owner or manager access role | A permission assigned to a user who manages a Business Profile | An identifier for the location; owners and managers are access roles with different capabilities5 |
The Google Business Profile owner or manager role answers who may manage a profile. The location ID answers which API resource a request addresses. A Place ID answers which place the Maps Platform recognizes, and a store code answers how the account holder labels a location in its own records. Keeping those values in separate fields prevents one identifier from being used as another.
This entry defines the identifier and its neighbors. It does not provide API setup instructions or turn a location ID into proof of ownership or access.
