Google describes the API family as federated, with separate endpoints for account management, business information, performance, verification, notifications, place action links, lodging, Business Calls, Posts, and Reviews.2 The Business Information API manages business information and location resources, with a location path shown as locations/{locationId} in Google's setup documentation.3,4 The Business Profile location ID answer explains that resource name, while Google Business Profile performance metrics explains the owner-facing reports.5 The Google Business Profile hub explains the profile itself.
Google directs applications that retrieve local business information or provide location awareness to Google Maps Platform documentation.1 A Place ID belongs to Google Maps Platform: Google defines it as a textual identifier for a place in the Google Places database and on Google Maps, while Business Profile setup separately shows the resource path locations/{locationId}.6,4 Access is not universal: Google lists a valid Google Account, a business reason, a Google Cloud project, and a business website URL as access conditions.1 Protected, non-public data requires OAuth 2.0, and requests are subject to quotas.4,7
Google's developer documentation defines this API family.1,2 This entry defines the term rather than providing an authentication walkthrough, endpoint instructions, or quota-management guide.
