Google's edit guidance puts the control on Google Search or in the Google Maps app: select Edit profile and then Save after making changes.1 The value must be a full URL with an HTTP or HTTPS protocol prefix, and Google says to make sure Googlebot is not blocked on the site.1

The field stores a link to an existing destination. It is not the destination page itself and does not create an organic website page. The destination should represent the individual business location. Google's representation guidance says not to provide URLs that redirect or “refer” users to landing pages or phone numbers other than those of the actual business, including pages created on social media sites.2 For the wider setup flow, see creating your Google Business Profile.

The website field is different from a Google Business Profile booking link or other action link. Google's edit guidance says some business categories might add more links to their website for online orders, reservations, or appointments. Its business-links policy says not all businesses are eligible, and some countries or regions are not eligible for certain links.13 A local business action link must lead to a dedicated page for the business, a specific location when the business has multiple locations, and a page where the customer can complete the named action.3 Those action-link rules do not turn the default website field into a required booking page.

To verify the customer destination, open the public Business Profile as a customer and select its website link. This is a practical check assembled from the rules above, not a Google-published checklist. Compare the final page with the actual business and location, then confirm that the stored value is a complete HTTP or HTTPS URL and that Googlebot is not blocked.12 If the profile has a separate booking or action link, test it separately for eligibility, location specificity, action completion, and crawlability. Google says business links are not available to every business, some countries or regions are not eligible for certain links, and links that cannot be crawled may be removed.3 The Google Business Profile links and actions audit provides the longer record-keeping workflow.

Google's Business Profile Help page describes the control as sharing a business's website and entering its full URL.1 This entry uses Business Profile website field as Maps Agent's plain-language label for that stored profile URL.4
