When do changes to my Google Business Profile show in Google Search and Google Maps?

Owner-edit review and public display are separate clocks. For a verified Business Profile edit, Google says review usually takes up to 10 minutes, but sometimes up to 30 days.1 Google says changes can take up to 3 days to appear in Search results.2 No separate Google Maps-specific propagation window is stated in the reviewed Help pages, so record Search and Maps checks separately. A public observation records what appeared for that check; it does not prove a ranking position or AI inclusion.

What should I record for a Google Business Profile change?

Copy one record for each changed field. Keep the owner view, Google Search, Google Maps, and any AI observation in separate columns. Write not visible, not checked, or not applicable instead of filling a gap from memory.

For edits to a verified Business Profile, Google documents Accepted, Pending, and Not approved as edit outcomes. Pending means the owner edit is still under review; record it as its own state, not as a public Search or Maps deadline.1 Google also documents Google-applied updates separately, including blue text for information changed by Google and black or white text when no Google updates are shown.3 Google says profile information is compiled from public web content, licensed third-party data, users, and business owners, so keep the owner submission separate from the public value.4

What should I record in each column?

Record one exact changed field per row set. The owner column preserves what was submitted and what Google showed to the owner. Search and Maps columns preserve what a customer-facing check returned on each surface. The AI column is optional and must stay separate from all Google values.

Column Record Do not replace it with
Owner view The exact submitted value, owner-edit status for a verified profile, Google update signal, owner-facing value, account context, and evidence A guess that Save means the value is already public
Google Search The exact query, device and account context, check time, public value, and evidence A ranking claim or the value seen on Maps
Google Maps The exact query or app path, device and account context, check time, public value, and evidence The Search result or a Search-specific deadline
AI observation The AI system, exact query, time, returned observation, and any source links shown in the response A Google status, Search value, Maps value, or proof of AI inclusion

Google names Google Search and Google Maps as separate profile surfaces, and available controls can differ between them.5 Keep the two public checks separate so each record preserves its own query, context, timestamp, and observed value.

For the submission history around the change, use the Google Business Profile change log template. For the exact status branches, use the Google Business Profile edit status log template. This checklist adds the customer-facing read-back that those records do not capture.

Which follow-up window applies?

Use the window that matches the event. Do not copy a window from one column into another.

Event or check Window to record Scope and next step
Owner edit review Usually up to 10 minutes, but sometimes up to 30 days For an edit to a verified Business Profile, this is Google's documented review timing. If the status is Pending, record Pending and recheck the owner status; then check public Search and Maps separately. A Pending field does not set one universal public-readback deadline.1
Public Google Search result Up to 3 days for changes to appear in search results Google states this for search results. Record the observed Search value and check time; do not turn it into a guarantee for every field or into a Maps deadline.2
Public Google Maps result No separate Google Maps-specific propagation window is stated in the reviewed Help pages Record the Maps check time and choose a documented internal recheck date. Do not relabel the Search window as a Google Maps rule.
Suggested edit that requires owner review 4 days after Google notifies the owner to accept or reject it This window applies only when Google says the suggested edit requires review. Google may publish an update after no response when it is supported by other public information, but no response is not a universal publication guarantee.3

What does a completed record look like?

This fictional example shows the level of detail to preserve. It is not a Google-required field set and does not represent a real business.

How should I record an AI observation?

Record an AI observation only as a separate observation. Include the AI system, exact query, account and location context when relevant, timestamp, returned text or summary, and any source links the system displayed. Label the result as an observation, not as a Google status, public Search value, public Maps value, ranking result, or proof that an AI system included the business.

An AI response can change with the query, context, time, or system. Preserve the exact observation and repeat the same query when a later comparison matters. Do not merge an AI response into the Google Search or Google Maps columns.

For owner-reported performance measures, see Understanding Google Business Profile performance metrics. A public read-back records a surface observation, not a performance metric.

How should I use this checklist?

  1. Copy one record for each exact profile field that changed. Capture the submitted value before editing when possible.
  2. For a verified Business Profile edit, record the owner-facing status with Google's exact label: Accepted, Pending, or Not approved. If the value was changed by Google, record the separate Google update signal instead of assigning an owner status.13
  3. Check Google Search and Google Maps separately.5 Save the exact query, device and account context, location context when relevant, timestamp, observed value, and evidence for each surface.
  4. Apply only the follow-up window that matches the event. Keep a Search-results window separate from a Maps observation, and keep the four-day suggested-edit window limited to edits that require owner review.32
  5. Add an optional AI observation in its own column. Close the record only after the next action and owner are clear, even when the value is still not visible or the status is still Pending.

What should I not infer from a read-back?

Do not infer Record instead
Save or Accepted proves that the changed value is visible on both public surfaces. Record the owner status, then check Search and Maps separately.
A Search observation is a Google Maps observation. Keep the query, context, timestamp, and value in separate Search and Maps columns.
The Search-results window is a Maps-specific deadline. Use the three-day wording only for Google's stated Search-results scope.2 Record a separate Maps recheck.5
A public value proves a ranking position or cause. Record the exact observation without claiming a ranking or causal result.
An AI answer proves Google ranking or AI inclusion. Record the AI system, query, timestamp, and returned observation in the separate AI column.
A blue value identifies the person or source that supplied it. Record it as a Google update and preserve the evidence. Google says profile information can come from multiple sources.34
A local submission or check time is Google's change time. Label the timestamp as the local submission or observation time, with its time zone.
A missing public value identifies why the change is not visible. Record not visible, the owner status, the evidence, and the next check.

This checklist is a local recordkeeping tool, not a Google-required history. It does not promise publication, approval, ranking, or AI inclusion.
