Business Profile ownership request
A Business Profile ownership request is a Google process in which a business owner or a person authorized to manage the business asks the current profile owner for ownership of a verified Business Profile that someone else owns on Google Search or Maps.1
For a storefront or hybrid business, the requester goes to business.google.com/add, enters the business name and address, selects the matching profile after the message Someone else may manage this Business Profile, chooses Request Access if authorized to manage the business, completes the form, and selects Submit.1 The guide to getting access to a Google Business Profile covers the surrounding checks. A service-area business that serves customers at their location without a physical shop or office uses Contact us, enters Transfer ownership of listing in the help field, and selects that phrase as the issue description; a bulk-verified account may use the bulk upload spreadsheet method for existing profiles.1
Google emails the requester a confirmation and notifies the current profile owner, who has 3 days to respond.1 Approval lets the requester manage the Business Profile; denial leaves the requester able to suggest an edit and try to appeal.1 After 3 days without a response, the requester may have the option to claim the profile through the confirmation email’s View request and Verify steps, followed by business verification, but the option to claim a profile isn’t always available.1 The guide to adding owners and managers to a Google Business Profile covers the roles after access. An ownership request is separate from primary ownership: only the current primary owner can transfer primary ownership to an existing owner or manager through More → Business Profile settings → People and access → select the user → Edit next to Access → Primary owner → Save.2 The guide to handing a Google Business Profile to a new owner covers that transfer and its 7-day limits.2
The term does not promise approval, a claim option, or primary ownership. Approval may let the requester manage the profile, while primary ownership requires the separate People and access transfer by the current primary owner to an existing owner or manager.1,2
