Location performance score
Definition
A location performance score is a vendor-defined label for local performance; in SOCi's 2026 Local Visibility Index, Performance score measures rankings, ratings and engagement, unlike Google's Business Profile Performance report, which measures profile discovery and customer actions.1,2

SOCi's public page states what its Performance score measures but does not state a formula or score scale. A number under that label should therefore be read within SOCi's Local Visibility Index frame, not as a cross-vendor standard or a value recreated from Google Business Profile reporting. SOCi separates the label from Optimization score, which reflects adherence to local marketing best practices, and from AI visibility, which its chart represents with dot size.1
The nearest measures answer different questions:
| Measure | What it represents | Useful for | Keep separate from |
|---|---|---|---|
SOCi Performance score | A vendor-defined actual-performance label based on rankings, ratings and engagement in SOCi's 2026 Local Visibility Index | Comparing covered multi-location brands inside that report | Google metrics, Profile Strength, Share of Local Voice and geo-grid observations1 |
| Google Business Profile Performance | How people discover a verified profile on Search and Maps and the actions they take over a selected date range | Reading searches, views, calls, website clicks, directions and other reported actions | Profile completeness or geographic rank coverage2 |
| Profile Strength | Google's prompts to find missing information, check consistency across Google services and add profile content | Completing and maintaining a verified profile | Customer-action performance or a ranking score3 |
| Share of Local Voice | A percentage of top-three local-pack appearances across a defined keyword and grid-point set | Comparing local-pack coverage over a declared area | A single rank, Google Performance or scores built from different inputs4 |
| Geo-grid rank observation | A business's rank at specified map points for a chosen search context and report time | Diagnosing street-to-street or neighborhood variation | A business-wide aggregate score or Google's own reporting5 |
SOCi's score belongs to a specific measurement frame. The 2026 Local Visibility Index covers U.S. brands with at least 50 locations, across five industries and 42 subcategories. SOCi says it evaluates more than 120 metrics per location across six key platforms: Google Maps, Gemini, Yelp, Facebook, ChatGPT and Perplexity, then groups the results into Search, Social, Reputation and AI. The page reports 2,700 companies, 350,000 locations and 42 million data points.1 Those boundaries matter: the report is not a score for every single-location Google Business Profile.
The arithmetic belongs to the neighboring Share of Local Voice measure, not SOCi's Performance score. If a Share of Local Voice scan records 8 top-three appearances across 25 keyword and grid-point checks, the result is 8 ÷ 25 × 100 = 32%. That 32% is a coverage share, not a location performance score.4
To compare two readings, keep their inputs with the number. For SOCi, record the 2026 report, its U.S. 50-plus-location population and its stated measurement frame. For Google Performance, record the verified profile and selected date range. For Share of Local Voice, record the keywords, geographic area, grid and top-three rule. For a geo-grid observation, record the points, search context and scan timing. Without those details, two numbers can look comparable while measuring different things.1,2,4,5
Google uses Business Profile Performance to report how people find a profile and what actions they take, and it uses Profile Strength to prompt profile-completion work. SOCi's Local Visibility Index uses Performance score as its label for actual performance through rankings, ratings and engagement. The linked Google Business Profile performance metrics answer explains Google's report; the neighboring glossary entries explain the other measures without treating them as one score.1,2,3
