Profile Strength

Profile Strength is Google's Profile Strength Indicator for a Google Business Profile, helping an owner find missing or inconsistent profile information and complete the listing.¹

Google makes the indicator available only for verified listings. It can identify missing details such as the business description, hours and contact information. It can also prompt consistency checks across Google Search, Google Maps and Google Shopping, along with adding photos, videos and posts.¹

Consider a hypothetical verified profile for a local plumber with no business hours and no description. Profile Strength can surface those two missing fields for completion. The owner can use the prompts to make the profile more complete. This is an illustration, not a Google case study.¹

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity, and that neither a payment nor a request can move a profile higher in local results.² The Relevance entry explains one of those local-result terms.

To use Profile Strength, go to your Business Profile and click Profile Strength. Follow the on-screen instructions. After you update your profile, click Next. To move to the next screen, click Skip. On the last screen, click Go to profile. Google notes that management features can differ between Search and Maps and by device operating system.¹³

Profile Strength helps complete profile information. The separate Google Business Profile performance report measures activity such as views, searches, clicks and other customer interactions on Search and Maps over a selected date range. Use Profile Strength for prompted completion work and Performance when you need evidence of how people discover and interact with the profile.⁴
