Prominence
Google's Business Profile Help defines Prominence as how well-known a business is; its examples include links from websites, review count and positive ratings that can help local ranking.1
Google's current Business Profile Help summary names relevance, distance and popularity as the main local-results factors; its detailed section is headed “Prominence” and places the term alongside Relevance and Distance.1
Google Maps Help uses “relevance, distance and prominence” for the primary factors combined in local results.2,3
Google's explanation is qualitative: it names website links, review count and positive ratings as information related to Prominence, and says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking.1
The cited Google explanations do not state a numeric Prominence score, weighting, threshold or guaranteed position. Google says it keeps search-algorithm details confidential, and that a business cannot request or pay for a better local ranking.1
For a hypothetical example, imagine two bakeries that both fit a search: one has more websites linking to it and more reviews, while the other is closer to the searcher.
Google's public explanations do not provide the weighting needed to predict which bakery will appear higher; Prominence is one factor among several, not a rule that the best-known business always ranks first.1,2,3
The cited Google guidance does not give Prominence as a fixed lookup number or cutoff a business can reach, and Google says a business cannot request or pay for a better local ranking.1
The Google Maps optimization guide covers broader Business Profile work, the Google reviews hub covers the review surface Google names as related information, and the local SEO hub maps the wider subject.
