Troubleshooting
Why do Google Maps and my Google Business Profile show different information?
Google Maps and your Google Business Profile can show different information because the signed-in owner view and the customer-facing result are separate checks. First record the exact field and value shown after you sign in to the Google Account linked to the profile. Then repeat the same business-name-and-city search signed out or in a private window on Google Maps and Google Search. Fix the branch named by the owner-side status, then compare that exact field again in the public view. Google says customers can find a Business Profile on Search and Maps after it is added and verified.12
The version to fix is the one identified by the status, not simply the version that looks wrong. A Pending owner edit needs review time. A blue field or Google-update notification needs a source check. Claim this business and Manage now point to an unverified profile. A duplicate signal means you must choose the correct existing profile. The final test is always the signed-out result on both Maps and Search.
First, compare the owner view with the customer view
Use the same business name, city, and field in every check:
- Sign in to the Google Account associated with the Business Profile. In Google Search, search the business name and city or my business. In Google Maps, search the business name and city. In the Maps app, open Business and select the profile if you manage more than one.
- Record the exact value shown for the mismatched field. Include the profile name, address or service area, and the value that differs.
- Sign out or open a private window. Search the same business name and city on Google Maps and Google Search.
- Compare the exact field, not only the profile name. Keep the two results separate while you diagnose the status.
The signed-in search proves that Google has an owner-side record. It does not prove that customers see the same value. Google ties public display to an added and verified Business Profile, so verification belongs in the diagnosis when the owner sees a profile that customers do not.12
Which status explains the mismatch?
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do now | Public verification |
|---|---|---|---|
| The owner sees a new value, but the edit says Pending | Google is still reviewing the owner edit | Wait for the review. Google says edits usually take up to 10 minutes to review, but sometimes up to 30 days. Do not treat Pending as a rejection or suspension. | After the status resolves, repeat the same signed-out search on Maps and Search.3 |
| The edit says Accepted, but customers still see the old value | The edit was accepted, but the public result has not caught up | Wait for the separate public-display window. Google says a business-information change can take up to 3 days to appear in search results. | Check the exact field again on both public surfaces after that window.13 |
| The edit says Not approved | Google did not confirm the submitted change | Compare the field with current business evidence. Use an appeal path only if Google presents one for that edit. | Check the public value after an accepted correction, not after an unapproved one.3 |
| The owner sees a blue field or a Google-update notification | Google changed the value from another source or applied a suggested edit | Inspect the notification and changed field. Compare the value with the current business website and real-world evidence before submitting another owner edit. | Google gives no fixed propagation wait for this branch. Recheck Maps and Search after the update is resolved.4 |
| The profile shows Claim this business and Manage now | An unverified profile already exists | Claim that profile and complete the verification method Google offers. Do not create a second profile. | After verification reaches its documented state, repeat the signed-out Maps and Search check.2 |
| One profile is missing and another profile represents the same business | Google may be treating the missing profile as a duplicate | Confirm which profile is correct, then use access, removal, merge, or appeal according to the exact duplicate condition. | Repeat the public check after the relevant ownership or duplicate review.5 |
Is my owner edit still under review?
Open the profile while signed in and inspect the edit status before submitting another replacement. Google uses three statuses for edits to a verified Business Profile:
- Accepted means the updated information displays on the Business Profile.
- Not approved means Google might not approve the change when it cannot confirm accuracy. An appeal may be available.
- Pending means the edit is still under review. Google says review usually takes up to 10 minutes, but sometimes up to 30 days.3
To submit a correction, open the profile in Google Search, select Edit profile, change the field, and select Save. In the Google Maps app, open Business, select Edit profile, make the change, and select Save. The linked Google Account is required. Saving sends the change for review; it does not mean that customers already see the new value.63
If the edit is Pending, wait for its result before replacing the same field again. If it is Not approved, recheck the field against current evidence before using any appeal Google presents. If it is Accepted but the public result is still old, allow up to 3 days for the business-information change to appear, then perform the same signed-out check.13
For more on a field that changes repeatedly, see why Google Business Profile information keeps changing. The broader field-edit and removal paths are in editing and removing your Google Business Profile.
Did Google change the public value?
A notification at the top of the profile or a field shown in blue is the tell for a Google-applied update. Google says it gathers Business Profile information from sources including user reports and licensed content. A blue field identifies a Google update.4
Inspect the notification and the changed field before making another edit. Compare the value with the business website and the real-world evidence that controls that field. If Google lets you edit that field, correct it from the linked Google Account when the current value is wrong. Google says you can’t manage all Google updates through your Business Profile. Google does not publish a fixed propagation wait for this update path, so record the changed value and recheck both customer-facing surfaces after the update is resolved.4
Some suggested edits generate an email or in-product notification with 4 days to accept or reject. If the owner does not respond, Google may publish the suggestion when other public information supports it. Google may also apply some suggested edits without prior owner review when policy requirements apply.4
The blue-field path and the owner-edit path are different records. The first tells you Google changed a field. The second tells you the owner submitted a correction. Record the signal before changing the value again.
Is there a duplicate profile?
Google says a business can have only one Business Profile. A profile Google considers a duplicate will not show on Google Search or Maps. Google lists an existing verified profile for the same business, multiple profiles at the same address, and multiple profiles for the same business offering different services as duplicate conditions.5
Distinct, eligible businesses at the same address can each have a Business Profile when they have different names and clearly visible differences in signage. A same-address match alone is not enough to diagnose a duplicate.5
Compare the profiles' names, addresses or service areas, verification state, and mismatched field. Then choose the branch that matches the record:
- If a verified profile is owned by someone else, request access. Google says the current owner has 3 days to respond. A claim option may appear after no response, but it is not always available.
- If you created a duplicate in the same account, confirm the correct verified profile before removing the duplicate. Google says removal does not affect the verified listing, but removes content and linked managers from the removed profile.
- If two profiles represent the same business, request a merge. Google reviews merge requests. The profiles should represent the same business and have the same information. Reviews are combined after a successful merge, but review replies may be lost.
- If two distinct eligible businesses were marked as duplicates, use the duplicate-status appeal path. If both businesses serve customers at one location, Google asks for permanent-signage evidence.5
Do not keep editing a profile Google has marked as a duplicate. Confirm the profile that represents the real business, take the matching ownership or merge action, and repeat the signed-out Maps and Search check after that process is reviewed. How to merge duplicate Google Business Profiles covers the merge branch in detail.
What if an unverified profile already exists?
Claim the existing profile instead of creating another one. In desktop Google Maps, search the business name and city, select the correct business, choose Claim this business, choose Manage now, select the verification option Google offers, and follow the instructions. In the Maps app, search the business name, select the correct result, open About, choose Claim this business, choose Manage now, and follow the offered verification path.2
If the profile is already verified and someone else manages it, use the ownership request path instead of the claim path. After the profile is verified or ownership is resolved, repeat the exact signed-out business-name-and-city search on Maps and Search and compare the mismatched field.25
How do I verify that the fix reached customers?
Run the same public check after the branch reaches its documented state:
- Open Google Maps signed out or in a private window and search the business name and city.
- Open Google Search with the same signed-out setup and search the same business name and city.
- Compare the exact field that differed. Do not use the profile name alone as proof that the correction propagated.
- Record the date, public value, owner-side status, and any notification still shown.
For an accepted owner edit, allow up to 3 days for the business-information change to appear in search results. For a pending edit, wait for the review result. For a Google-applied update, use the notification and field state because Google gives no fixed propagation wait. For a duplicate or unverified profile, complete the relevant ownership, merge, or verification process before treating the public result as final.12345
What should I do when none of these checks explains it?
Keep a short record of the exact business name and city, the Google Account used for the owner lookup, the mismatched field and values, the owner-side status, the public result on Maps and Search, and the last action taken. Check the profile again after the relevant review or display window. If the views still disagree, contact Google Business Profile support with that record.134
If the profile itself is missing rather than showing a mismatched field, use why your business is not showing on Google Maps. For an overview of the record and its controls, see understanding your Google Business Profile.
Do not create a replacement profile while the existing profile is being diagnosed. A second listing can add a duplicate-profile problem to the original mismatch.5

Common questions
- Which version should I fix first?
- Fix the branch identified by the owner-side status. A Pending edit needs review time, a blue field needs a Google-update check, Claim this business needs an existing profile claimed and verified, and a duplicate signal needs the correct profile selected. The signed-out Maps and Search result is the final check, not a reason to submit the same edit repeatedly.
- Can I create another Business Profile to make the public value match?
- No. Google says a business can have only one Business Profile, and a profile Google considers a duplicate will not show on Search or Maps. Diagnose the existing profile, then claim, request access, remove, merge, or appeal according to the condition you can see.
