How to set up online booking on a Google Business Profile

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder7 min read

If you add your own booking link, verify your Google Business Profile first. Then select Booking in Google Search, or Edit profile and the transaction type in Google Maps. Choose Add link, enter a dedicated booking page, and select Save. If Google supports your booking provider, choose Bookings, select Get started, select the provider, and select Done.123

What do I need before I add online booking?

For a manually added business link, your Business Profile must be verified. Eligibility also varies by the action and the region. Google says not all businesses qualify for every business link; a hair salon, for example, may be eligible for appointment booking but not online-ordering links. Some countries and regions are not eligible for certain links.1

Open the Google Business Profile hub if you need to check the wider profile before adding the booking action. After Google approves a link edit, Google says the change is published on Search and Maps.1

Which online booking path should I use?

Choose the path that matches the booking system you already operate:

Path Use it when What happens after setup Important condition
Your own Business Profile link You have a booking page that customers can use directly. Customers follow the profile link to your dedicated landing page. The page must complete the booking action and follow Google's link rules.1
Supported booking provider Your booking-management provider is available in Google's provider list. The provider's booking option appears on your Business Profile. Google says the provider will show within a week, and the provider might charge.3
Reserve with Google You do not work with a booking-management provider and want to find one available in your country. Reserve with Google helps you find available providers. Reserve with Google can show booking performance; custom links do not.3

Use this path when you already have a booking page for the business or for a specific location:

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. In Google Search, select Booking, Food ordering, or Pickup and delivery. In Google Maps, select Edit profile and then the transaction type you want to add a link to.
  3. Select Add link. If the transaction type already has a link, select Add another link.
  4. Enter the booking URL.
  5. Select Save.2

Use the Booking transaction type for an appointment page. A multi-location business should use a landing page for the specific location, not a general page or a page for another location.1

After saving, view the live profile while signed out. Open the booking action, complete a test booking, and confirm that the action opens the correct location-specific page.

What should the booking URL point to?

The URL must lead to a dedicated landing page for that business and let customers complete the designated action. For a business with multiple locations, use the page for the specific location. Google does not allow business links to social media sites, messaging links, app stores, or link shorteners.1

Check the link as a customer before saving it. The page should open the booking flow itself, not merely describe that bookings exist. A link to a social profile, a message thread, an app download, or a shortened URL does not meet Google's stated business-link rules.1

Check the URL and its crawler access before adding it:

  • Remove spaces, symbols, backslashes, or a duplicated URL scheme.
  • Confirm that the page returns a successful response and loads its images, CSS, and JavaScript completely.
  • Do not require Google's Google-BusinessLinkVerification crawler to pass a CAPTCHA, sign in, or clear a bot, rate-limit, IP, user-agent, or geographic block.
  • Do not serve the crawler different content from the page a customer sees.1

Google says its business-link verification crawlers do not follow robots.txt. Google may check a link no more than once per day and may remove a link that is inaccessible or does not comply with its policies.1

How do I connect a supported booking provider?

If Google lists your booking-management provider, use the provider connection in your Business Profile:

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select Bookings.
  3. Select Get started.
  4. Select your provider.
  5. Select Done.3

Google says the booking provider will show on the Business Profile within a week. Google also warns that a provider might charge when a customer books through Google, so check the provider's terms before connecting it.3

Google works with select third-party providers whose links lead to the provider's site for actions such as making an appointment or reservation. Those links can appear automatically on Search and Maps and can be provided or updated by the provider or Google's automated data.2

Google's current help pages state two different maximums for the same family of links. “Manage your local business links” says a profile can add up to 10 links per category. “Business links policies & guidelines” says the maximum is 20 links per transaction type. Google does not reconcile those terms on either page, so follow the limit shown in your profile.12

Limit Google’s current wording What to do
Total links Up to 10 links per category on the management page; a maximum of 20 links per transaction type on the policy page. Follow the limit shown in the profile. If Add link is unavailable at that limit, remove an existing link before adding another.12
Links per domain Only one link per domain is allowed. Google removes a new third-party link if its domain duplicates one already in use. Check the domain already present and select a different domain for the new link.1

The count limit and the domain limit are separate. A profile can be below the count shown in its interface and still reject a URL because that domain is already represented.

If the profile has more than one link, choose which one Google labels “Business preferred”:

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select the transaction type, such as Booking.
  3. Select Set preferred link.
  4. Select the link you want to make preferred.
  5. Select Save.2

Google says local business links cannot be added through the Business Profile API or a spreadsheet upload. Add and manage them on the Business Profile itself.2

Use one of Google's documented removal paths:

  • In Google Search, select Booking, then Remove Provider.
  • In Google Maps, select Edit profile, Booking, then Remove Provider.2

Google gives the provider 5 days after receiving the request to remove its link. If the provider does not process the request, use Google's third-party violation report linked from the removal instructions.2

Is Actions Center part of a local business setup?

No. Actions Center Appointments Redirect is a provider-side integration, not the normal setup route for one local business. It sends a customer from Google Search or Maps to an appointment provider's landing page to complete the booking.4

An integration partner must:

  1. Review the merchant and service eligibility criteria and the policy documentation.
  2. Read the Appointments Redirect integration overview.
  3. Complete the partner interest form or work with a Google Business Development contact.4

The Actions Center handoff belongs to the provider or integration partner. A local business should use Add link or connect an available provider through Bookings.

Common questions

Do I need a booking provider to add online booking to my profile?
No. Google says a business without a booking-management provider can find providers available in its country through Reserve with Google or add its own link to the Business Profile. Custom links do not provide performance data.
Can I use a social-media or messaging link for booking?
No. Google says business links cannot be social media sites, messaging links, app store links, or link shorteners. Use a dedicated landing page where the customer can complete the booking action.
Can I add more than one booking link?
Yes, subject to Google's limits. Google's management page says up to 10 links per category, while its policy page says a maximum of 20 links per transaction type. Only one link per domain is allowed. Follow the count shown in your profile, and choose a different domain when one is already in use.
How long does a connected booking provider take to appear?
Google says a selected booking provider will show on the Business Profile within a week. The provider might charge for bookings made through Google, so confirm pricing with the provider.
