What are More hours on Google Business Profile, and how do holiday hours work?
Main hours are your normal weekly schedule, More hours are recurring hours for a specific service, and Special hours are short-term exceptions such as holidays. Set the first for the business overall, the second for services such as delivery or pickup, and the third for a holiday opening, closing, or split schedule. For a longer or open-ended whole-business closure, use Temporarily closed. More hours require regular hours, while Special hours require “Open with main hours” to display.
Which Google Business Profile hours should I use?
Choose the hours field by what is changing: the business's normal week, a recurring service schedule, or a brief exception to the overall schedule.
| If you need to show... | Choose... | Use it for... |
|---|---|---|
| When the business normally opens and closes | Main hours | The regular weekly schedule shown for the business on Google Maps and Search. |
| When one service is available on a recurring basis | More hours | Service-specific hours such as delivery, takeout, drive-through, or pickup. Set regular hours first; Google says More hours should generally be a subset of the main hours. |
| When the whole business follows a temporary schedule | Special hours | A holiday, special event, or other brief exception, including an open, closed, or split day. Google's current guidance covers a closure of up to 6 days in a row. |
| When the whole business is closed for longer or without a known end | Temporarily closed | A closure of more than 7 days, the off-season, an indefinite closure, or a closure with an unknown end date. |
Google's business-hours guidance gives the same intent rule: use main hours for the normal week, Special hours for holidays or brief temporary periods, and More hours when different services have different hours. The Google Business Profile hub has the wider profile context.
When should I use Special hours instead of Temporarily closed?
For a closure of up to 6 consecutive days, use Special hours. For more than 7 days, an off-season, an indefinite closure, or an unknown-period closure, use Temporarily closed. Current Google Help pages do not give one consistent rule for exactly 7 days.
| Your closure looks like... | Use... | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 6 consecutive days | Special hours | Google describes Special hours as the setting for a brief change or a closure of up to 6 days in a row. |
| More than 7 consecutive days | Temporarily closed | Google's dedicated closure guidance directs longer closures to this status. |
| The business is closed for the off-season | Temporarily closed | Google lists off-season closure separately from short Special-hours changes. |
| The business is closed indefinitely | Temporarily closed | An indefinite closure is an open-ended closure, not a date-specific exception. |
| You do not know how long the closure will last | Temporarily closed | Google's Special-hours guidance specifically directs unknown-period closures to this status. |
| Exactly 7 consecutive days | No single universal instruction | Current Google pages give different boundaries, so do not present one settled rule for this exact case. |
The distinction is about the whole business, not one service. Keep a service's recurring schedule in More hours; use Special hours when the business-wide schedule changes for a holiday, special event, or brief closure. Google's closure guidance says marking a business Temporarily closed helps people searching by its name understand that the closure is temporary.
How do I mark my Google Business Profile Temporarily closed?
Mark an individual profile Temporarily closed from Business Profile → Edit profile → Hours → Business hours → Hours → Edit → Temporarily closed, then select Save. Google provides a separate bulk path in Business Profile Manager for multiple locations; the steps below are for one profile. Google's closure guidance gives this individual-profile path.
- Open the Business Profile while signed in to the account that manages it.
- Select Edit profile, then Hours.
- In Business hours, next to Hours, select Edit, then Temporarily closed.
- Select Save.
Use this status for the longer, seasonal, indefinite, or unknown-period branches above. Do not use More hours to represent a closure of the whole business: Google's Business Profile guidelines describe More hours as service-specific, and Google's More-hours guidance says they generally sit within the primary hours.
How do I reopen a Temporarily closed Google Business Profile?
To reopen an individual profile, go to Business Profile → Edit profile → Hours → Business hours → Hours → Edit → Open with main hours, select the open days and hours, and Save. Google also offers Open with no main hours if you do not want hours displayed. Google's reopening guidance gives this path.
- Open the Business Profile.
- Select Edit profile, then Hours.
- In Business hours, next to Hours, select Edit, then Open with main hours.
- Select each day the business is open and set the hours.
- Select Save.
If the profile was marked Permanently closed because the business changed location or name, Google says not to reopen that profile. Add and verify a new Business Profile instead.
How do I add More hours for a service?
Add More hours when a recurring service has its own schedule; More hours do not replace the business's main hours.
- Open the Business Profile while signed in to the Google Account linked to it.
- Select Edit profile, then Hours.
- Under Add more hours, choose the type of More hours, such as Drive through.
- For that service, select the days and set the hours that apply.
- Select Save. If the profile has several More-hours types, set each type separately.
Google's More-hours guidance says regular hours must be set first because More hours do not display without them. It also says to set More hours generally as a subset of the primary hours. The More hours glossary entry explains the difference between this recurring service schedule and a temporary change to the whole business.
How do I set holiday hours on Google Business Profile?
Use Special hours for a holiday or other brief change to the business's overall schedule, then save the date in the Hours editor. For a date-by-date review, use the Google Business Profile holiday-hours checklist alongside these steps; the Special hours glossary entry defines the field.
- Open the Business Profile and select Edit profile, then Hours.
- In Business hours, next to Special hours, select Edit.
- Select the date. For a suggested holiday, select Review; for another date, select Add a date; to change a date already listed, select that date.
- If the business is open, uncheck Closed and enter the opening and closing times. If it is closed all day, keep Closed checked.
- For separate periods on the same date, select More, then Add hours +, and enter each period.
- Select Save.
Google says it's a good idea to confirm the hours for an official holiday even when they match the normal schedule, so customers can see that the Special hours are accurate. Google may also show a warning that hours might differ and lets businesses set Special hours in advance for the holidays listed in its holiday guidance.
Why are my holiday hours not showing on Google?
Check the main-hours setting first: Google says Special hours show on the profile only when Business hours is set to “Open with main hours.” Then check the date, the saved value, the seasonal status, the More-hours relationship, and whether an overnight period was split at midnight.
| What you see | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The holiday entry is saved but does not appear | Business hours in Edit profile → Hours | Select Open with main hours, then check the Special hours entry and save it again if you changed it. Special hours do not display with Open with no main hours. |
| The wrong holiday schedule appears | The date and the saved value under Special hours | Open the date, correct the open or closed setting, and select Save. Saved values are available in Business information → Hours or Edit profile → Special hours. |
| The business has a seasonal schedule | Main hours and closure status | During the open season, set regular hours and use Special hours for holidays or temporary changes. During the off-season, use Temporarily closed, then set regular hours when the business reopens. |
| A service schedule conflicts with the business schedule | More hours and the primary hours | Set regular hours first. More hours are for a specific service and should generally be a subset of the primary hours, not a replacement for a whole-business closure. |
| An overnight holiday schedule is cut off or assigned to the wrong day | Whether one period crosses midnight | Split it into one set ending at midnight on the first day and another beginning at midnight on the next day. Google's example for 7 PM–5 PM is 19:00–00:00 and 00:00–17:00. Enter the next day's intended Special hours again because its regular hours are ignored for that date. |
| The closure is longer than a short holiday break | The closure branch and end date | Use Special hours for up to 6 consecutive days. Use Temporarily closed for more than 7 days, the off-season, an indefinite closure, or an unknown period; exactly 7 days has no single consistent rule across the current Google pages. |
What should I do if Google shows a holiday warning?
Set Special hours in advance for the listed holiday and confirm the date even when the business will keep its normal schedule. Google says the warning may appear on a Business Profile when holiday hours might differ; it does not say that the warning appears every time. The “Does Google Maps rank me lower when my business is closed?” answer covers the separate question of how to represent a longer closure.

Common questions
- Can I use More hours for a holiday schedule?
- No. Use More hours for a recurring schedule attached to a service such as delivery or pickup. Use Special hours when the business's overall schedule changes for a holiday, special event, or other brief exception.
- Do I need to set holiday hours when my normal hours will not change?
- Google says it is a good idea to confirm the hours for official holidays even when they match the regular schedule. That confirmation makes it clear to customers that the Special hours are accurate; it is separate from changing the normal weekly Main hours.
