Google My Business

By Sergey Sulimko, Founder1 min read

Google My Business is Google's former name for Google Business Profile, the product businesses use to manage how they appear on Google Search and Maps.12

Google changed the name to Google Business Profile in 2021. Google My Business is not a separate current product. The current Business Profile can show business hours, website, phone number, location, photos, and videos; depending on the business category, the location can be a street address, service area, or place marker.2

The old phrase still appears in some public Google documentation. For example, a current Google Help page uses “Google My Business” when directing readers to claim or create a Business Profile. Read that wording as a legacy reference to the current Business Profile, not as evidence of a separate product.3 The guide to creating a Google Business Profile covers the current setup process.

For a verified profile, Google says changes can be made on Search and Maps. Owners can invite owners or managers, and managers can help with daily operations such as editing information, responding to reviews, and managing posts. Larger businesses with multiple locations use Business Profile Manager for bulk management.24

Google My Business does not mean a knowledge panel. Google distinguishes Business Profiles, which are for businesses serving customers at a location or designated service area, from knowledge panels, which are automatically generated information boxes about entities.3 The Google Business Profile owner entry explains the current access roles.
