Temporary closure
Definition
Temporary closure is Maps Agent's explanatory label for Google's Temporarily closed Business Profile status, used for a business closed for more than 7 days, the off-season, or an indefinite period; Google's current help pages do not give one consistent instruction for exactly 7 days.1,2,3,4

Google's dedicated closure page says to use Temporarily closed when a business is closed for more than 7 days, for the off-season, or indefinitely; it says a closure of 7 days or less uses Special hours.1 The Special hours page says Special hours cover a temporary adjustment or closure of up to 6 days in a row, and says Temporarily closed applies at 7 or more days or when the period is unknown.2 Google's business-hours page also says Special hours cover 6 days in a row or fewer.3 Taken together, these pages leave exactly seven days unresolved. The unambiguous branches are up to 6 days for Special hours, more than 7 days, the off-season, or an indefinite closure for Temporarily closed, plus the Special hours page's separate unknown-period instruction. Do not present one setting as definitive for exactly 7 days.
When the status is set, Google shows Temporarily closed on Maps and Search.1 Google says the label helps people searching by the business name understand that the closure is temporary and may avoid discovering it only through an in-person visit.1 The status is not a ranking rule. For one profile, choose Business Profile → Edit profile → Hours → Edit next to Hours, select Temporarily closed, and select Save.1 To reopen, choose Open with main hours, set the open days and hours, and select Save.5 Google also offers Open with no main hours if you do not want hours displayed.5
Temporary closure is not Special hours: Google uses the neighbouring setting for temporary adjustments and short closures.2 Google says Special hours display only when main hours are set to Open with main hours.2 It is different from Google's Permanently closed status.1 When a business reopens, Google says its profile is no longer marked temporarily or permanently closed on Maps and Search.5 If Google marked the profile Permanently closed as part of a location or name change, Google says not to reopen it; add and verify a new Business Profile instead.5 For a seasonal business, Google says to mark the profile Temporarily closed during the off-season and set regular business hours when it reopens.6 For the separate question of how a closure relates to rankings, see Does Google Maps rank me lower when my business is closed?.
