User-suggested edit
Definition
A user-suggested edit is a public Google Maps suggestion that asks Google to review a factual change to a place's information; it is not a direct edit to a Business Profile the submitter owns or manages.1

Google's help pages use suggested edit, suggested user edits, and Suggest an edit.1,2 This entry uses the ordered headword User-suggested edit as a descriptive label for that public correction flow, not as an official Google product term. Google directs a person who owns or manages the business to the Business Profile information flow instead.1
Someone who finds a factual error on a place they do not manage can use Suggest an edit in Google Maps and submit the correction. The guide to auditing user-suggested changes covers the record-keeping and response workflow. The guide to editing and removing your Google Business Profile covers the owner and manager paths.1
| Route | What it means |
|---|---|
| Public Google Maps suggestion | A person selects Suggest an edit for a place and submits information for Google to review. The suggestion may receive an owner-review notification, but Google does not give every suggestion the same handling.1,2 |
| Verified-profile owner edit | The person edits the verified Business Profile directly. Google reports Accepted, Not approved, or Pending; review usually takes up to 10 minutes, but some reviews can take up to 30 days.5 |
For certain suggested edits that require owner review, Google may send an email or in-product notification. After that notification, the owner has 4 days to accept or reject the suggestion. If the owner does not respond, Google may publish the update when other public information supports it. Google may also apply some suggested user edits without prior review when edits must meet its policy guidelines.2
The four-day window is not a general response deadline for the person who submitted the suggestion. Google says some correction features are available only in certain countries or regions, changes may take time to appear, and other sources may overwrite an approved edit.3,4 A public suggestion is therefore a request for Google's review, not an immediate publication.
The Accepted, Not approved, and Pending statuses belong to the verified-profile owner-edit workflow. They do not automatically describe every public Google Maps suggestion.5
