Public readback
Definition
Public readback means checking Google Search and Google Maps after an owner-side Google Business Profile change, then recording the check time and the observed value or state on each surface.1,2,3 It is an observation tied to that check, not a Google status or a promise of visibility everywhere by a stated deadline.

What does a public readback record?
| Record | Google Search | Google Maps |
|---|---|---|
| Lookup | Exact Search query | Exact Maps query or place lookup |
| Check time | Date, time, and time zone | Date, time, and time zone |
| Observed state | Value shown, or not visible | Value shown, or not visible |
| Evidence | Result or profile URL, or screenshot | Listing URL or screenshot |
The Google Business Profile public readback checklist provides a field-by-field record.2 The Google Business Profile update verification answer explains how to keep the owner-side status, Search observation, and Maps observation separate.3
Is public readback the same as Google edit status?
Does public readback give a visibility deadline?
No. Google's edit guidance says review usually takes up to 10 minutes, but sometimes can take up to 30 days.4 That review window is not one universal deadline for a changed value to appear on every public surface. Record the time of each check and the state you saw. Do not turn an owner-side status or one surface's observation into a Google guarantee for another surface.
